CRAFT ~ BACKGROUND & OVERVIEW

With help from the Sun, I craft NATURAL HAND-ENHANCED WALKING/HIKING/STROLLING STICKS, STAFFS, CANES, SHILLELAGHS, CHROMACHS, & CROOKS from saplings cropped [handle then attached] or dug [for the root handle] in my home region of Virginia. [see pictures/prices in Links below] All sticks are saplings. None are secondary shoots or limbs. Thus they possess the compact ring and grain structure seen in the trunk of the tree. This natural quality gives them their inherent strength & resilience to endure the rigors of walking cane and staff use.

No two sticks are alike. Each is a unique design created by the forces of nature. With knife-blade & stains, I merely expose these natural qualities.

Sticks are collected from the uplands surrounding the town of Manassas, rich in its association with Civil War history. . . Yes...these sticks could very well have grown on land trodden by soldiers? *The "Mississippi" encampment [destroyed for a bridge approach] is only a short trek from my home*! Most sticks are gathered in the cooler months from woodlots destined for development, abandoned overgrown fields to be cleared for housing, road & power-line corridors overdue for mowing, etc. Essentially, most Battlefield Sticks have been preserved from destruction!
