This time of the year takes me back to my childhood when life was simple
and time seemed eternal.
Come along with me and perhaps you will rediscover some seemingly lost memories also.

Summertime reminds me of things like:

Stealing away to the swing under the grape arbor
to read a good book and sip homemade lemonade.

Making "mud cakes" in the little red wagon
and decorating it with colorful wild flowers.

Slurping the occasional sno cone I was privileged to buy.

Eating crackers in the bed and driving my big sister nuts !

Spending hours on the swing Daddy built in the backyard.

Diving deep into the clear, cool lake water
to see how long I could stand on my hands with feet straight in the air.

Sitting on the steps in front of the cabin
watching the sun rise across the still, quiet lake.

Lying on a blanket in the front yard with my brother and sister after dark.
Screaming and covering up my head so the approaching car headlights wouldn't "shoot me" !

Putting a note in a bottle, hoping to find a secret love.

Making a fairyland in the mossy rock garden

Skating in the street.

Pretending I was Esther Williams...
with fins to assist me in becoming a "mermaid".

Attending Vacation Bible School with my friends.

Lying on my back in the cool grass
looking for pictures in the clouds.

Filling a mason jar with lightning bugs to provide light in my bedroom until morning.

Putting on a "variety" show (and believe you me it was variety) with neighborhood kids.

Playing "Red Light, Green Light", "Slinging Statues" and "Kick the Can" until dark.

Riding my bike to the gravel pit.

Straddling the bow of the boat while Daddy and I "road the waves".

Running until I was wheezing while I watched my pinwheel whirl round and round.

Picking blackberries....but coming home with chiggers !

Being a "star" on my front porch with my jump rope as my mike.

Cruising the town square to see if there were any guys hanging out at the church corner.

Going with friends to the cemetery at night to check out the ghosts.

Singing around the piano with friends on a lazy Sunday afternoon
and then going to Lon's for a cheeseburger and milkshake.

My friends and I piling into my car to go to "Dollar Nite" at the Drive-In Movie.

As I think about it, these would be fun things to do this summer....

Want to join me ?
