Watermelon Toddler Dress

~fits a 2-3 yr old child~ (I used a 4 ply yarn for this particular one, but you could use a cotton yarn, I am just unsure of the amount for that.)

Materials: 1 skein Red ( 3 oz) 2 skeins white (3 oz) small amounts of each; green, black. 1 or 2 buttons for the back. G hook NECKLINE: with Red, Ch 47, hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 5 sts. * 3 hdc in next st (corner made). hdc in next 6 sts, 3 hdc in next (corner made), hdc in next 18 sts (front of dress), 3 hdc in next st (corner made), hdc in next 6 sts, 3 hdc in next (corner made), hdc in remaining sts to end. ch 2, turn on each row. Continue pattern for 5 or 6 rows depending on size you want. ARMHOLE: ch 2, hdc in each st across back to the first corner. skip stitches between these corners , ch 10, and hdc into the center st of next corner and across the front of dress to center st of next corner, ch 10, skip stitches between corners, and hdc into center of last corner, and hdc across back to end. join to beginning st on other side to join pieces, you will now be working in rounds. JOIN GREEN: ch 3, do 1 hdc in each st around, including each ch under arms, all the way around. join. SKIRT: Join white, ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join. ch 3, do 2 dc in same st, * sk 1 st, do a V st (1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc) in next, sk 1, do shell in next (5 dc in same sp), * all the way around, ending with 2 dc in beginning st(where the ch 3 is), join to top of ch 3 with a sl st. ch 3, and continue this pattern working a V st in center of V st, work a shell in center of a shell all around for skirt pattern. work for desired length of dress. LAST ROW: sc in each st around evenly for hem. end off. WATERMELON SEEDS: use black yarn to embroider seeds, using a lazy dasy stitch. place "seeds" at random across front of bodice. use green to trim the armholes, * ch 3, sk next st, sc in next, repeat * around for a ruffle on armhole. (leave plain if desired). Sew buttons to back , use buttons that fit thru a st opening. I used 2 buttons on mine. Dress can also be made in Orange, Yellow or Lime Green with White Seeds. just use your imagination. You can also use Baby Pompadour Yarn and a sz.
