The Bus Page

My first car was a 1978 Olds Delta 88 that my grandparents bought me for 400 bucks.
It was a good car to start with except the gas milage. After a couple of years
with the old beast it was time for something new, but I didn't have any money. That
was somewhat of a big problem. My neighbor had this bus that he had been trying to
sell for some time and was just ready to get rid of it at this point. He paid $500 for
it, but told me I could have it for $400 and pay it off whenever I got the money! What
a blessing because at this point I was jobless and broke! The bus sat in the drive way
for a month or two 'til I had enough money to get it running and road ready. I
have spent about $2000 on the bus so far I think, but it runs good and gets me where
I need to go. I have made a lot of improvements to the bus, but it still has a ways to go.

This is the bus shortly after it hit the road.

The Power Plant!

The bus has been a lot of fun and a lot of headache. This is a pic of me in January '01 when I put a new clutch in. Most people get clothes and stuff for Christmas but for the last two years I have gotten tires and a clutch! :)

October 4, 2002
I had my original engine rebuilt in March 2002 by AVP. I have still not got it to run quite as it should.
It has become apparent that I probably should have just saved a little longer and went with an engine
from Jake Raby at www.aircooledtechnology.com , but I didn't so now
I will live with what I have. My setup is a little different than stock. I raised compression up to 8:1,
bigger valves (41x34mm), web cam 107i with matching hydro lifters, and a mallory unilite optical pickup
distributor with vacuum advance. My engine just doesn't run the way I want it to yet, but hopefully soon I will have it where I want. I just finished
replacing the right rear wheel bearings as they were making some noise. That wasn't too bad except the
first bearing I ordered was a brazilian made piece of junk and didn't fit right so I had to reorder and sent
that one back. The second (this is the outer bearing I am referring to) one to come was a German made unit and worked great. I haven't worked on the
page much lately but I am going to try to keep it more updated. Thanks for stopping by. Sign the guestbook if
you get a chance!
