Our Trip to
Grand Mesa National Forest
Colorado
summer of '00

Entering the forest!

I have been taking summer trips to the mesa for several years now with my family and uncle's family, but last year they weren't able to make it so Samye, Wesley, LC, my brother Kelly, and I decided to take our own trip to the mesa. Wesley and I have played in a band together for years and LC is from our church youth group. We headed out and were going to stay the night at my cousin's house in Denver, and from there he was going to join us in heading to the mesa. We took the bus and his truck on the journey. We had lots of fun while we were there. Grand Mesa is truly an awsome display of God's great power. It is beautiful. There are over 200 trout lakes on top of the mesa. It is the world's largest flat-topped mountain. Most of the mesa is well over 8,000 ft elevation and some even reaching close to or over 11,000 ft. Before acsending up onto the mesa the countryside is very dry with lots of shrubs and not many big pines, but after the steep climb up on to the massive plateau, its like two different worlds.
