FISHING         

I got hooked (ha) on fishing when I was young because my dad would take me fishing with him every time he went. His favourite place to fish is Lymn Dam and every chance he had he would go, and here we are now 25 years on and we still go and fish on Lymn Dam at the weekends, we also have fished places like Sale Water Park, Roman Lakes and the River Dane, In 2000 we both joined RAMSBOTTOM ANGLERS ASSOCIATION which is located in Bury. They have about 10 waters scattered around the north west, with most of them being in Bury. Membership cost £25 for senior and £17 for a concession and we went fishing every other weekend. We didn't have much luck catching fish at any of the waters and there was only 1 water that we liked and caught and that was Entwhistle Pool. Although the membership fee still worked out cheaper than fishing at our favourite site Lymn Dam (£2.50) we didn't catch as many fish. The season for 2000 was not impressive, with very little being caught or none at all. Then again it was late in the season we joined the club (September) and I suspect a lot of the waters had been good fishing earlier in the season but had been hammered during the school holidays. After the first year in the R.A.A we decided that the club was not worth being in on the bases of two things, the distance we had to travel to get to the waters and when we got there we didn't see much action. We tried fishing on the local canal on Portland Basin and Roaches Lock and actually caught more fish in one day than in the full year in the R.A.A.

We started to fishing at Reddish Vale and another little pond called Sykes in Stockport which fish really well. We have had some really good fish from these ponds and are now reluctant to fish anywhere else, our 2002 and 2003 season was very good and with plenty of very good fish caught.

2006 wasn't a good season at Reddish Vale due to somebody putting piranhas into the water.
