Thanks to a submission and suggestion by Carol Huber, this month's issue has many pieces that deal with shame.

Shame is a very real thing to survivors. Shame over the abuse itself, shame because the body may have responded during the abuse, because the abuser made the victim believe it was in someway his or her fault and a hundred or more other types of shame.

A major step in recovery for any survivor is the realization that they have nothing to feel ashamed or guilty of. That they were not at fault. It is our hope that some of the following pieces will help out those survivors still struggling with these feelings.

Readers are urged to remember the work featured at Survivor Haven is not to be copied in any form without the written permission by the author of the piece. All work at Survivor Haven is protected by copyright laws!

Since she was the catalyst for the theme, what better way to start out than with Carol Huber's story?

Carol Huber's Dark Shame took a great deal of courage to write. Both Carol and Survivor Haven wish to warn readers that this piece may be very triggering so please keep your emotional safety in mind when reading.

Joni K. McGowen's poem Little Girl Long Ago makes us all think about the child we were, what we both believed and wished for before the innocence was taken away.

Kerry Wisner's essay There Were Times It Felt Goodis another piece that may be triggering for many.

Sue Stopka hits on a common thread of thought for many incest survivors in her poem, The Boogie-Man

Sue Stopka brings another heart wrenching poem to us with A Little Girl Dreams

Hawk tells us of what deep dark thoughts can exist in our minds that no one ever realizes are there in Dark Thoughts Deep Inside

Survivor Haven is proud to announce an article by Kali Munro M.Ed., Psychotherapist. Its often taboo topic may be triggering for many who have experienced Mother Daughter Sexual Abuse

Sara McGrath speaks out on the fears survivors often have concerning their children and the people around them in My Child

Lorraine Ondera is a newcomer with a strong voice and a disturbing story in Summer Wind

Susan Maree Jeavons returns to Survivor Haven with an essay, Forgiving Ones Self- Eliminating Shame and Guilt
and two poems
Shame
Healing Steps

Another newcomer is Janelle Gregory who also has offered us a look into her poetry with Descriptives
and
Inevitable

Be sure to bookmark Survivor Haven when you go to Janelle's pages as they are located outside Survivor Haven.

Operation Iraqi Freedom and The War Against Terrorism

Please support out troops!

We at Survivor Haven urge our readers to please show their support of the troops now fighting in Iraq. Regardless of your politics, thoughts on presidents, rallies for or against the war, the men and women serving in the coalition forces deserve both support and respect. The failure of diplomats, the egos or motives of presidents and the money spent on Operation Iraqi Freedom aren't important. What is important, are the lives of those doing the actual fighting. They aren't faceless, mindless robots marching to war. These soldiers are our sons and daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers. They are our neighbors, friends and in-laws. They are our defenders and those who are working to make sure we are able to sleep a little easier every night and go about our business of daily living without the fear so many in other lands have to deal with on a daily basis.

If you wish to show support by adopting a soldier or troop unit as an email pen pal, visit www.operationmilitarypride.org
