Chapter 112

For the next four days…Kevin was at wits end waiting for Ray, who was due to arrive that evening in Alberta, Canada.

AJ was pretty much by his side for the entire four days. Sarah wasn’t around during the time, so it made it easier for him to keep Kevin company, as best he could. AJ took him shopping, much to Kevin’s dismay, golfing and even accompanied him to the bar the evening before.

As much as AJ didn’t want to go to the bar, he went anyway, for Kevin’s sake. They were well into the wee hours of the morning when AJ finally got him to agree to leave. It wasn’t easy though. Kevin was drunk and practically pawning over every female in there. If she had tits, Kevin was there trying to make an impression…a lousy impression in AJ’s mind, but an impression nonetheless.

And for the most part, AJ sat back and just watched Kevin…from a distance…

It was when Kevin was actually going to bring a girl back to the hotel with him when AJ finally stepped in. He knew that what Kevin really wanted was Emma, but with that not being a readily option, he pretty much tried for anyone that would agree. It wasn’t too difficult, being who he was and all, but AJ had seen enough and knew that what Kevin really needed was a good night’s sleep and to lay off the alcohol.

He practically had to drag him back to the hotel, but he eventually convinced Kevin that it wasn’t sex he needed…it was his wife. They fought the entire way back, but at least AJ succeeded in getting him back alone.

“Ah man, why’d you have to make me look like an ass back there…acting like my Goddamn mother!”

AJ held unto him tightly and kept walking, with Carlos close behind. “You didn’t want her Train.”

“Like hell I didn’t! Did you see her?” Kevin asked with wide eyes.

“Yeah, I saw her and by the way, she didn’t hold a candle to your wife.”

Kevin stopped. “I don’t got a wife no more!”

AJ pressed forward. “Yes you do…you ain’t divorced yet buddy.”

“Fuck you AJ!”

“Fuck you Kevin!”

When Kevin finally came to the next afternoon, AJ was right by his side. He didn’t leave him all night and only when AJ was sure that he was going to be fine, he headed back to his room to get some much-needed rest.

“Thanks Bone.”

“One favor deserves another,” AJ quietly replied while making his way to the door.

They didn’t have a show that night, so Kevin pretty much just stayed put in his room, anxiously awaiting Ray’s arrival. And when the time was approaching, he started to sweat. He wasn’t sure he wanted to get divorced…maybe they could work it out. Deep down, it’s what he wanted, but wasn’t sure if he was capable of it. Marriage was about trust and quite frankly…he didn’t trust her anymore.

When he let Ray in, Kevin immediately went to the small table in the room and sat down. “Okay, let’s see what we got here.”

Ray sat down with him and pulled out the paperwork. “I’ve already taken a look at it.”

“Without me?”

“I wanted to prepare myself for anything…sorry.” Shrugging, he handed Kevin the documents. “What Emma’s asking for is in section five, down at the bottom.”

Kevin closed his eyes and then focused them where he was told. He read the list once, twice and then had to reread it again. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Ray shook his head and smiled. “It’s right there in black and white.”

He tossed the papers down on the table. “There isn’t anything there in black and white.”

“My point exactly,” Ray said, grabbing the papers and his pen. Taking a few minutes, he began filling in Kevin’s portion of the statement. “Consider yourself lucky. You got off pretty damn easy, I’d say.”

Kevin leaned back in the chair, running a hand over his head. “She can’t be serious…all she wants is for me to pay for the filing fees and her attorney costs?”

“That’s it Kevin…pretty cut and dry.” Looking up at his client, Ray nodded. “Shouldn’t take but a couple months to get this through.”

Kevin threw his hands up. “Hold it right there. I’m not about to let it go at this, no way.”

Putting his pen down, Ray looked over at him. “What’re you talking about?”

“She’s getting something.”

Ray nodded, smiling. “She is getting something…she’s getting you to pay for this thing.”

“I mean besides that Ray,” he huffed.

“She doesn’t want anything Kevin! Why would you give her something she doesn’t want?”

Kevin jumped up from his chair. “Because she’s my wife, dammit! She’s not leaving this marriage without something.”

Ray shook his head, lunging it forward. “Am I hearing you right? You want to give her your money.”

Kevin nodded.

“Are you out of your mind?”

“No, I’m not,” Kevin growled. “I want you to send this back to her and that attorney of hers before I sign anything and I want it stipulated that she is to get one million dollars.” He started pacing the floor and stopped when he heard moans coming from Ray. “Or no deal.”

Ray sat back in his chair and glared at Kevin. “One million dollars?”

“Not enough?” Kevin questioned, raising his eyebrows. “Okay then…offer her two million.” His face was as serious as they come.

Ray looked at him in horror. “You want to give her TWO million dollars?”

Kevin nodded.

“Oh my God, this can’t be happening,” Ray quietly murmured. Looking back up at Kevin, he frowned. “What are you thinking? She doesn’t want anything Kevin…N-O-T-H-I-N-G. Get out while you can.”

Kevin sighed. “Honestly Ray, I don’t want out…she does. And I’m not about to stop her from what she wants. But, if getting out will make her happy, then so be it. But, she’s getting two million dollars – end of discussion.” When Ray didn’t make any attempt to continue on with what he was doing, Kevin pointed to the paperwork for him. “I mean it…write it down.”

Ray completed the paperwork in silence and when he was finished, he handed it to Kevin and pointed at where he was to sign. Once that was accomplished, he stood up and shook Kevin’s hand. “I’ll never understand you famous people – never. I’ve seen some nut cases before, but this takes the cake. You…my friend…are out of your mind.”

Kevin narrowed his eyes. “Watch what you say Ray…I don’t have any qualms about getting another attorney if need be.”

Ray opened his briefcase, placed the documents inside and walked to the door. “I’ll be in touch.”

Dropping to the couch, Kevin sat there for only a few minutes before he heard someone knocking at the door. "It's open."

When AJ walked into the room, he acted surprised to see Kevin just sitting there, sulking. “If you don’t want to get divorced Kevin…then you need to fucking pick up the Goddamn phone and call her.”

Kevin lifted his head slightly. “And what makes you think I don’t want to get divorced?”

AJ took a seat across from his friend and rolled his eyes. “I know you better than you think asshole. You don’t want to get divorced and I’m willing to bet my entire savings on the fact that Emma probably doesn’t want one either…so just suck it up and call her ass.”

Only a look was exchanged between the two men.

Finally, Kevin let loose. He needed to talk to someone about what just happened and once he started talking, he didn't stop until AJ was filled in on every little detail of what went down with his attorney – down to the very last words he shared with Ray.

“Ray’s gotta think you’re out of your mind!” AJ doubled over laughing.

Kevin sat there…emotionless. “Do you?”

AJ stopped laughing. “What I think is that you’re still in love with her but too damn stubborn to do anything about it.”

Kevin ignored his remark, lost in his own thoughts. “Do you think two million was enough?”

“For putting up with your ass for the past year?” AJ questioned, shaking his head and smiling. “Hardly.”

“Fuck AJ,” Kevin groaned loudly. “I’m being serious here.”

“She doesn’t want your money Train…don’t you see that? I’m guessing all she wants is you.”

“Well, she’s getting my money or there’s no divorce. I won’t agree to anything less.”

AJ got up to leave and patted Kevin on the back before heading out. “You got it bad buddy.”

“GOT WHAT BAD?” Kevin yelled.

AJ simply shut the door, ignoring him. When he got back to the room, he immediately picked up his phone and called Emma. He wasn’t about to sit back and do nothing…he needed to intervene or this whole thing could blow right up.

“Emma, hi it’s AJ.”

Emma laughed. “I’d recognize your voice anywhere AJ…how are you?”

He smiled at her concern. “I’m doing great babe…wonderful in fact. I’ve never been better…except for when I’m in the sack, but you don’t really want to hear about that do you?”

Emma laughed at his sexual innuendo. Leave it to AJ to bring sex into the conversation. “So, how’s everyone else doing?”

“Oh…” he trailed. “Everyone’s fine…except Kevin of course.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, he was pretty upset today when he got your divorce papers.”

Before quietly responding, she sighed. “He got them huh?”

“Oh…did he ever.”

Against her better judgment, she began questioning him, “So, does everyone know that we’re getting divorced? Does everyone hate me? Does Kevin hate me? Do you hate me? Does Kevin have a girlfriend already?” She stopped for a moment. “Forget the last question…I don’t want to hear the answer to that one.”

He laughed into the phone, while smiling. “You’re something else, you know that? Okay, let’s see if I can answer them all for you. No, not everyone knows you filed for divorce. Actually, I’m the only one who knows in the group. Of course, everyone else knows that something is up with you two, but no one’s come out and asked Kevin about it directly…bunch of pansy asses.” He laughed and then continued, “No, Kevin doesn’t hate you and of course, I don’t hate you. And are you sure you don’t want me to answer the last question?”

“Hmmm…”

“Well, I’ll answer it anyway. No, Kevin doesn’t have a girlfriend yet…he still has a wife though, right?”

“Not for long,” she whispered.

“Listen Em…I don’t know what happened between the two of you and I’m not sure I even want to know. But, I wish you guys would sit down and try to work through it.”

“He won’t let me AJ. I’ve tried.”

“He’s stubborn Em, you know that. Try harder.”

She cleared her throat and changed her tone. “I won’t beg that man to listen to me. If he doesn’t want to work it out, then there’s no use prolonging the inevitable.”

“I hear ya Em…but why don’t you call him and at least try?”

She took a deep breath. “No thanks AJ. I’ve tried and he won’t listen. Really, this whole thing is my fault. I blew it, big time and now I’m paying for it.”

Just then, AJ heard Kevin knock on his door and yell, “Hey Bone, you want to hit the bar tonight?”

He tried his best to cover the phone, but it was too late. “Was that Kevin?” Emma questioned.

“Yeah…I gotta go.”

Sarcastically, she shot off. “Have a fun time at the bar.”

“Oh yeah, a lot of fun it is for me. I can’t drink and he won’t stop drinking. I think he thinks that by drowning his sorrows in a bottle of rum, he’ll forget about everything.”

“And chances are…he will. Goodnight AJ, thanks for calling.”

“Night Emma.”

Chapter 113

During the next week, following AJ’s phone call, Emma pretty much kept busy looking for a job. She always used her maiden name when filling out an application…trying to avoid any type of commotion about whom she was married to. So far, it was working. If anyone recognized her, they didn’t let on.

She could hear the phone ringing when she was opened the front door. “I’m coming…I’m coming…” Pushing through the door and dropping her bags on the floor, she grabbed the phone. “Hello.”
“This is she.”
“Really?”
“Yes, we discussed salary during the interview.”
“No problem…next Monday it is then, thank you.”

She hung up the phone and did a happy dance around the house. Tossing her hands up in the air, she jumped on the couch. “I DID IT! I GOT A JOB!”

Plopping down on the couch, she reached for the phone. “Who can I call? Um….let’s see….” She thought for a moment and then threw the phone down on the couch. Sadly, she really had no one to call. “Man, I need some friends.”

Deciding to take a nap to help ease the depression of not having any friends, she walked to the bedroom and then froze when she remembered that she needed to call Kevin about her piano…especially now that she had just landed her very first job. Nervously, she grabbed the phone and dialed his cell.

Waiting for him to pick up was tremendously nerve-wracking. She hadn’t spoken to him since she left the house two months ago.

Hearing his voice was sure to send her in another downward spiral.

The phone rang and rang…and when it finally switched over to voice mail, Emma paused momentarily, not knowing whether or not she should leave a message.

The sound of his voice, even on his voicemail…made her tremble. “Um…Hi, it’s Emma. Could you please give me a call on my cell when you get a chance? I need to talk to you about getting my piano delivered here. Thanks.”

She hung up the phone, clenched her shaking hands into a fist and sighed. She needed to get on with her life…and she needed to do it now.

Grabbing the phone book, she went directly to the yellow pages and started looking for some place to go. Anywhere. She needed to get out and get drunk…big time.

Finally settling on a place called “Lipsticks,” Emma retreated to the bedroom to take a much-needed nap. It was only four o’clock in the afternoon, way to early to head to a bar. Or was it? “Ah…what the hell.”

Quickly, she changed her clothes; the whole time spent talking to herself...trying to convince herself that this is what she needed. She needed friends…she needed a life…she just needed to get drunk.

Before Emma walked out of the bathroom, she had to do a double take in the mirror. She looked pretty good, considering she was about to divorce the hottest man on the planet.

She wasn’t dressed to the hilt or anything, quite the opposite actually. She simply had on a pair of jeans, a v-neck, low-cut, short-sleeve tee shirt and a pair of Keds. Nothing fancy by any means, but she looked good nonetheless. At least she had brushed her hair and put on makeup. That was quite an accomplishment at this point in her life.

Grabbing her phone, she called the place to make sure she knew exactly how to get there and jumped in the car. Placing her favorite CD in the player, she turned up the volume and got lost in the music…

Hearing her cell phone ring, she grabbed it while still singing… “This must come to an end…………get………another boyfriend!! HELLO?”

“Emma?”

“Yeah…hang on a sec, I need to turn down the music.”

Kevin had to smile, even if only for a moment…she was listening to Black-n-Blue. Knowing her, she probably still didn’t own any other CD’s but the two she’d owned before leaving…Millennium and Black-n-Blue.

“Okay, back…” Emma said, not aware of whom it was yet.

“You called?”

She knew now. Trying to calm her nerves, she cleared her throat. “Yeah…Hi…Listen, I need to make arrangements to get my piano sent here…can we work this out somehow?”

It was really over…she wanted her piano. “Yeah, no problem. Do you need it soon?”

“Yes, actually the sooner the better. I just got a job and I need it here for practicing.”

His lips were starting to form a small smile, much to his dismay. “Oh, I see.”

Emma wanted him to ask her about her new job, her new life…anything, just ask her something. She didn’t want to hang up with him yet. She missed hearing his voice. She missed seeing his lips move when he spoke. God, she just missed him period.

Kevin was kicking himself in the ass, he didn’t want to seem nosy, but he was curious about her job. “It’s not at Walmart is it?”

He asked!! She laughed at his question. “No, it’s not. I got a job at the nursing home downtown here. I’ll go in everyday for a couple hours in the afternoon to play the piano for them. Apparently, they love to sing and dance to the oldies.”

“Hmph….I guess they would.” Kevin missed hearing her voice; the excitement over something so small always got to him, each and every time.

Emma’s voice grew quiet, “Yeah, I guess so.”

Time almost seemed to stand still for a while. Neither one saying anything, but thinking a million things.

“So, where you headed tonight?” Dammit! It’s none of my friggin’ business where’s she’s headed! He was about to tell her “never mind” but she answered too quickly.

“I’m actually meeting some friends up at the bar.” It wasn’t exactly the truth, but she couldn’t tell him she was going alone. He would be all over her ass about it, divorce or not.

“Drake’s not bothering you, is he?” Goddamn it…stop asking her personal questions.

“No, not at all…haven’t even seen him.”

Kevin sulked. She was actually moving on with her life…without him. Why would he expect anything different? “Sounds like fun.”

“Should be.” She paused for a moment; “You got a show tonight?”

“Yeah.”

“Sounds like fun.”

“It’s a job.”

Dead silence…again.

“I miss you Kevin.” Dammit! Why did I have to say that?

“I gotta go.” She misses me? Yeah, that’s why you’re divorcing me then right?”

“Okay, can you call me when you find out about the piano?”

“Sure.”

“Goodbye Kevin.”

She hung up the phone and immediately turned the stereo back on…“JUST ANOTHER PLAYER….PLAYIN’ IN THE NAME OF LOVE….I’VE SEEN ENOUGH….”

**********

Emma arrived back home at around two a.m. the next morning, pretty hammered to say the least. She had met a couple girls around her age that night and one of them insisted that she take a cab home.

She was beyond hammered…she’d been drinking since five in the afternoon.

When she finally made it to her bed, her head was throbbing. Getting up, she grabbed two aspirin and then proceeded back to bed. Despite her drunken state, she could pretty much remember the whole evening and the events that took place.

She grabbed hold of the sheets, gripping them as hard as she could; hoping that she could make the room stop spinning. Not likely. Opening her eyes as wide as she could, the room eventually slowed down somewhat, but not enough to help. The room was spinning out of control, much like her life at this point.

She swore under her breath as she recalled the conversation she had with her two new found drinking buddies………

“Do you really think you should have another drink Emma? You’re pretty loaded already, don’t ya think?”

“Ah Paige…don’t be such a poor sport – if she wants another drink, let her have one.”

Paige shot her best friend, Noelle a look. “Fine.” They each ordered another drink and quietly began talking about sex. At first, Emma was quiet, but the more she drank…the more she talked.

“Oh man, my husband is great in bed…he’s so damn good looking, I get hot just looking at him.” Emma laughed as the other girls joined in. “I’m not kidding, when I see him all I want to do is jump him.”

“Lucky girl…how long you been married?” Paige asked.

“About a year now.”

Noelle leaned over the table. “Well, no wonder you’re still hot for him…give it a couple more years, it’ll wear off.”

Emma laughed and then shrugged it off. She’d never know that for sure or not…

“You got a picture of him?”

She paused, trying to think whether or not she did. “No, I don’t. Can you believe that? But trust me, he’s gorgeous.”

“Ah…do tell, what’s he look like?” Paige asked, smiling from ear to ear.

“He’s got dark black hair that’s pretty long right now, past his shoulders and the most amazing green eyes I’ve ever seen. He’s muscular, about six feet tall…”

Noelle stopped her with her hand. “Penis size dear?”

Emma gasped…ah hell, she was drunk. “Pretty big, too big for me to take it all in my mouth….oops, did I just say that out loud?” The girls all started laughing. “Don’t tell him I told you that though, he’d kill me. He’s kind of on the conservative side.”

Noelle laughed. “Well, like I said before…give it a couple more years and the penis size will start to diminish…just like the sex drive.”

Paige hit her friend. “Don’t be bringing me down, this is good. Shhhh……”

Emma rolled her eyes. “I don’t have a couple more years, we’re getting divorced actually.”

Both girls gasped. “Really?”

“Yep, so why don’t you guys tell me about your men?”

Paige and Noelle sighed. Each looking to the other one. “We don’t have men right now…both single and looking.”

Emma frowned. “Me too, pretty soon.”

The conversation stalled for a moment. “So Emma, you sure you don’t have a picture of this soon-to-be ex-husband of yours? If he’s gonna be free soon….”

Emma laughed. “Hey, that’s not funny…” She grabbed her wallet and searched through it. “No I don’t…come to think of it, I don’t think we’ve ever taken a picture together.”

“No shit…not even wedding photos?”

Emma shook her head and then smiled real big. “I don’t need a picture, you guys probably know who he is anyway.”

“We do?”

“You know who the Backstreet Boys are?”

Noelle laughed. “Who doesn’t? And which one does your husband look like?”

“He looks like himself,” Emma replied matter-of-factly.

Paige bellowed, “Don’t tell me you’re married to one of them!”

Emma leaned over. “Sure am…Kevin, do you know which one that is?”

The girls’ mouths dropped. “You’re shittin’ us right?”

Emma pulled her license from her wallet. “Nope, check out my name.”

The girls stared at her license. “Emma Richardson…yeah, but that doesn’t really prove anything.”

“Why would I lie about it?” Emma questioned. “I’m not lying…but if you don’t believe me…that’s okay too.”

Paige just sat there, speechless while Noelle stammered, “I can’t believe we’re sitting here with Kevin Richardson’s wife.”

Emma leaned over. “Shh…we don’t want to announce that, if you know what I mean.”

**********

Emma closed her eyes and placed her hands over them. What the hell was I thinking? Kevin is going to kill me! She grabbed her cell phone and quickly punched in his number…she needed to tell him what she did. This could cause problems, for every one. Kevin probably didn’t want anyone knowing about this yet, until he was ready to announce it and here she just went and told two strangers that they were getting divorced. And to top it all off…she told them how good Kevin was in bed and that he had a big penis.

Ah shit, I am in so much trouble.

Kevin heard his cell phone ringing and mumbled under his breath, “Who the hell would be calling me at this hour?” Reaching for it, he knocked the alarm clock to the floor. “Ah shit.” Grabbing hold of the phone, he sat up. “WHAT?”

Emma froze. He sounded pissed. Shit, shit, shit….

She hung up.

Chapter 114

Kevin leaned over the nightstand and turned on the light. “Don’t these people know about caller ID?” He was beyond mad. Not only did someone wake him up at this ungodly hour, but they hung up on him as well.

When he recalled the last number, he froze. It was Emma calling. Why would she be calling him at this hour? “Probably checking up on me,” he huffed. “Girls do this kinda shit all the time…in high school.”

He pushed ‘send’ and waited. And when she finally answered it, he could tell right off the bat how drunk she was by her slurred speech of just saying “hello.”

“Why’d you call me and then hang up?”

Groggily, she was trying to place the voice, “Mmmm…Kevin?”

“Who else would it be?” Bad question…. “It better be important…do you realize what time it is?”

“Ummm…yeah, sorry. I…I…I…just…want…wanted…to…”

“How much did you drink tonight?” he asked, interrupting her.

“Um…um…a lot,” she admitted.

Kevin sighed. “I figured…how’d you get home? You didn’t drive did you?”

“No…I…took a cab.”

They were both quiet for a while. And then he finally noticed that her breathing became heavy and sporadic. It sounded like she fell asleep. “Emma? You still with me?”

“Yeah.”

“What’d you want?”

“Just calling to see…if you’ve had my piano shipped yet,” she lied.

“What?” Kevin ran a hand through his hair, grabbing hold of the ends and pulling it. “Are you serious?”

“Um…um…I just…wanted…” Kevin rolled his eyes, at this rate it was going to take forever for her to get out what she wanted to say. “To…tell you that…that…that I’m sorry about tonight.”

What was she talking about…sorry for what? What’d she do tonight that she felt sorry for? Kevin took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. “Sorry for what?”

“For…for…doing…what…what…I did.”

He jumped up off the bed. Just what the hell did you do? “And what was that?”

“What?”

Kevin rephrased his question, “What’d you do?”

“When?”

He mumbled under his breath, “Emma…try and follow along here…what’d you do tonight that you’re sorry for?”

“Oh, that…I…I…met…these two…”

His mind trailed off, not taking in anything more than the words… ‘I met these two…’ Dropping back to the bed, he cleared his throat loudly. “Whoa…You didn’t go home with anyone, did you?”

“No……..no.”

Kevin breathed a sigh of relief. He cared still and it irked him to no end that he cared. He needed to stop caring and move on. She was moving on, that was evident with her filing for divorce; he needed to do the same. “Where you with someone?”

“What…do you mean?” she stammered.

“I know you’re drunk Emma, but think about it,” he huffed.

She thought for quite a while…and no answer.

Kevin was beginning to wonder if she might’ve really fallen asleep this time. “You still there?”

“Yeah.”

He spoke slower, “Did…you…hook up…with someone?”

Emma’s eyes grew wide. “You mean…like…like…kiss someone?”

“Kiss, touch, feel, screw…all of those apply.”

She cringed…how could he think that? “No…you’re the…only…one…one…I want.”

Kevin took into account her drunken state and didn’t read too much into her admission. “So, what is it then?”

“I…I…told…these…two girls that…I…met…that you have…a…big…penis.”

His eyes grew in horror and then when it really hit him as to what she said, he had to stifle his laughter. Obviously, she was pretty upset about this so maybe he should pretend to be too. “YOU WHAT?”

“I told them…my husband…had a big…big…penis. We were talking…about sex…and it…just kinda…slipped out…s-s-sorry.”

“Well, they don’t know who you’re married to, so don’t worry about it.”

Dead silence.

“Emmmmmmma?”

“Yeah?”

“You didn’t tell them who you were married to, did you?”

“Um…um…yeah, I did….sorry.”

Okay, he wasn’t pretending anymore…he was pissed. Kevin rolled his eyes and said a silent, “Oh God” under his breath. He brought his hand to his forehead. Thinking back about all the gossip surrounding him over the past years, having a big penis was already touched upon. Apparently, some fans thought he was sporting hard-ons in some photos, videos and hell, even on stage…

“Don’t worry about it…just try and keep your mouth shut in the future. I don’t need everyone knowing what size my dick is.”

“Okay, sorry. There’s…something…else…too.”

“Great,” he mumbled. “What else did you say?”

“I…kinda…let it…slip that…we…we’re getting…divorced.”

He closed his eyes and mumbled “shit” about ten times. “Do me favor would ya?”

No answer.

“Don’t drink when you go out.” Kevin paused momentarily and then quickly added his final thought, “And if you do…don’t open your mouth unless it’s for your drink. Goodnight.”

“Kevin?”

He brought the phone back up when he heard her. “What?”

“You really are the only one I want…”

He huffed, “Then what’s with the divorce Emma?”

“I don’t know what…else…to do…you won’t…give me…a chance…”

“You’re right, I won’t…goodnight.”

He hung up the phone…and didn’t sleep for the remainder of the night.
Emma hung up the phone…and promptly fell asleep.
