CHAPTER 17
Jordan watched everyone board the plane from her seat next to Skip. He was pouring over paperwork and only looked up when someone spoke to him. Jordan’s task was making sure everyone got on the plane.
Jordan was nervous. She left Kevin in bed earlier. Her nerves were not eased when AJ and Nick boarded. AJ acted as he always did. Nick on the other hand barely said hi then pushed past AJ to take a seat farther back. AJ shook his head only slightly to indicate now was not the time to ask.
The last person to board was Kevin. He made a point of leaning against the seat in front of Jordan and talking with Skip. As he moved to the back of the plane, he allowed his leg to brush against Jordan’s arm. Jordan ignored him.
Jordan successfully managed to avoid Kevin for most of the trip. She made sure they were never alone. Luck was on her side when Kevin and several others decided to take a walk up into the mountains. Skip wanted to go so he offered to shoot footage for the website.
Unfortunately, while Jordan was busy avoiding Kevin, Nick was busy avoiding her. He interacted with her only when absolutely necessary. Just like Kevin could never get her alone, she could never get Nick alone.
Jordan spent her free time taking a walk. Returning to the hotel, she grabbed the elevator. As the doors began to close she heard someone calling to hold the doors. Nick bounded on with AJ and their bodyguards.
“Thanks! Oh.”
“Hey guys.”
Everyone but Nick greeted her. He was suddenly very interested in his shoes. The door’s opened on AJ and Jordan’s floor and they stepped off with Marcus.
“Nick you comin’,” asked AJ.
“Naw. I’ll be down later,” he answered. He looked at Jordan as the doors closed.
AJ stood looking back and forth between the elevator and Marcus. He turned to say something to Jordan, but she was already heading down the hall to her room.
“Dan wait up!”
“You need something AJ?”
“No,” replied AJ, jogging up to her. “Marcus you go on. I’m going to hang with Jordan for a bit.”
“Alright. Catch you later.”
“Bye Marcus,” replied Jordan as she walked into her room.
AJ watched her walk across the room and check messages. He sat down on the bed.
“How are things,” asked Jordan as she hung up the phone.
“You tell me.”
“Clue me in here Bone. What are you talking about?”
“I wanted to make sure you’re ok after the time off.”
“I’m fine. Did you have a good time off?”
“So, so. Grandma’s getting’ sicker.”
“I’m sorry to hear that AJ. If you need anything, just let me know.”
“Thanks. And you are not fine.”
“Yes I am. So let it go.”
“No.”
“AJ.”
“Shut Jordan and listen to me. You’re avoiding Kevin like the plague. Did he hurt you?”
“No,” laughed Jordan. “Trust me when I say I can handle anything Kevin might do, but he didn’t do anything.”
AJ study her for a moment before speaking again. “Then what's up with you two?"
"We promised we would go back to the way it was before. The less time we spend together the better."
"I see."
"Good. Now will you explain it to Nick?"
"I can try, but you really need to talk to him."
"Hello Captain Obvious! I would. Unfortunately, I can't get him to talk to me. He shuts down or runs whenever I'm around."
"That he does."
"So what do I do?"
"Give him some time."
"I've been giving him time. When do I stop?"
"You'll know."
"Is he going to hate me forever?"
"Not forever, just the foreseeable future."
"AJ!"
"Kidding Dan. Kidding!"
Jordan left Nick alone while they were in Mexico. Everyone split up when they got back to the states.
Jordan went back to Nashville, then went to see her parents. She also took care of signing final papers for her grandmother's estate.
Grandmother Baker was the last of her living grandparents and her mother's mother. Grandmother Baker was a strong woman. She was opinionated. Jordan's grandfather said what he loved about is wife was her spunk. She also had a bond with Jordan that was tighter than with any of her other grandchildren. It became tighter after her husband died and after Jordan moved to Nashville. Jordan knew she could go to her Grandmother when she was in trouble and there would be no judgements passed.
Grandmother Baker had passed away the previous fall. She had left the bulk of her estate to Jordan. Some in the family weren't pleased with that fact, but the woman knew her law and her will was iron tight. Anyone contesting would lose everything.
Jordan didn't want the money or the land. She mourned her grandmother. The loss made her feel more alone than she had ever felt. However, after talking to her grandmother's attorney and longtime friend, she realized she would need to take charge of everything. It was the only way to preserve it the way her grandparents had wanted.
Jordan hooked back up with the guys in LA the week of the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They were performing. Just prior to the show they were shooting the video for "More Than That".
It was easy to stay away from Kevin. They were in the land of movie stars and Kristin Richardson. Kevin had schmoozing to do and Kristin was with him most of the time.
It was right before the video shoot when AJ got the call that his grandmother had died. He was shaken, but insisted on doing the video shoot. They got through the shoot and AJ was on his way back to Florida.
After AJ left, Jordan ran into Nick in the elevator at the hotel. She attempted to talk to him, but again he shut her out. She watched him get off the elevator on his floor. She rode up to her floor, but didn't get off when the doors opened.
"Billy did you forget something? Oh what are you doing here," ask Nick, opening his door.
"I came to talk."
"Jordan, I don't have anything to talk about."
"Bull. I'm coming in."
"No."
"Nick don't make me move you."
"You couldn't if you tried."
Before he knew what was happening, Nick found himself pushed away from the door and Jordan was inside.
"I grew up around boys. They taught me how to play football…how to tackle…how to move people. I'm good."
"Yeah. Now get out."
"Why won't you talk to me Nick?"
"I talk to you."
"Only when you absolutely have to. Do you hate me that much?"
"I never said I hated you."
"No, but you sure act like it."
"Why did you have to go off with Kevin?"
"Because of the bet."
"Bullshit! That's a lie and you know it."
"So you tell me why. You seem to have it all figured out."
"I don't have it all figured out but I know you like him. Hell you probably love him. Everyone Kevin goes after loves him."
"Not me."
"Will you stop lyin' to me," exclaimed Nick. "You kiss me and then say you're glad you don't have to do it again. Then you go off and fuck Kevin!"
"What does one have to do with the other?"
"Am I that bad a kisser?"
"What?"
"You heard me. Don’t make me ask again," he said, his head dropped, dragging his toe across the carpet.
"Nick you are not a bad kisser. I even said you were a great kisser. Can we sit down and really talk?"
Reluctantly he moved with her to the couch. They sat on opposite ends facing each other. Nick had his knees drawn up to his chest. He looked younger than Aaron at the moment.
"Nick I need to know…are you hung up on me?"
"No."
"OK then where is this coming from."
"Shit Jordan you kiss me and everything. I'm not like in love with you or anything, but what we did has an affect on a fella."
"It has an affect on a girl too."
"Really?"
"Carter don't make me say this again. You're good. You're very good. See you made me say it again."
The both laughed. Jordan sobered again and asked, "honesty time here…do you really want something with me? Think before you answer."
Nick did as she asked and replied, "I guess not. I mean I love you and all, but…"
"Not in that way."
"Exactly."
"So we cool?"
"We cool."
"Good, because Shorty you owe me several hugs."
Nick laughed as his friend launched herself at him. They hugged without speaking for several minutes. Finally, Nick broke the silence.
"Jordan I'm sorry I said you were fuckin' Kevin."
"It's ok Nicky. It's what we did basically. It was sex not love."
"How can you separate it? I mean guys do it, but you’re a girl."
"I had a good teacher Nick."
"I don't want to see you get hurt."
"I won't."
"But you can't tell me you don't love the guy."
"Yes I can."
Nick pulled back to study her eyes. "Fine, but he did get to you."
"Yes he did, but he doesn't know it. So let that be our little secret."
"Yeah, but we have to include AJ on the secret. He said he saw it in your eyes when you watch Kevin."
"Thanks for the heads up, because with Mrs. Richardson running around I can't let her see."
"Good idea." After a pause, Nick said, "Jordan be careful with Kevin. He's like a brother and all, but still I've watched him too many years."
"Nick, Kevin and I had this talk. I know he gets loyalty from women by making them fall in love with him. He knows he can't do that with me. He also knows I won't betray him. I won't betray any of you."
"I know that," he said with a roll of his eyes.
"Smart ass. Come on," she ordered as she stood up.
"Where are we going," asked Nick as he allowed her to pull him off the couch.
"You are buying me dinner."
"I am?"
"You are."
"Why?"
"Because you've been pissy and not talked to me. It's time to make it up to me. Besides the last time we went out, I bought."
"Oh alright."
Chapter 18
Without looking, Jordan knew Kevin’s eyes were on her. She was getting very use to this feeling of being watched. She attempted to tune everything out on the boat as they sped toward Los Roques, a tiny island off the coast of Venezuela. It was early in the day; the sky and water were both clear.
Once they arrived in South America, Jordan continued avoiding Kevin, making sure they were never alone. Kevin didn’t want things to go back to the way they use to be. She knew it drove him nuts, but she would keep her word…so far so good.
The group had traded the anchored yacht for smaller motorboats, in order to get closer to the island. After leaving the boat and wading to shore, with equipment in tow, Jordan looked around. It truly was breathtaking.
She watched everyone get settled. Their guides were busy starting a fire and preparing lunch. It was the first time Jordan had eaten Barracuda. It was different, but not bad. The fresh fruit was wonderful.
Finally, it was time to film a segment for the website. Howie had stripped off his shirt the second his feet touched sand. Kevin however didn’t remove his until they began filming. Jordan’s eyes wandered down his body. Her eyes came back up to see Kevin smirking at her. Her face instantly lost all expression. Sighing he took his seat next to Howie. Things were moving along smoothly, until Kevin decided to get in a dig at the three missing Backstreet members. He in particular commented on Nick. He got a small reaction from her by way of a clenched jaw. Finishing the segment, Jordan headed to her bag.
“Did you even bring a suit?”
Jordan felt his breath on her shoulder.
“Yes.”
“Good. It’s time to swim.”
“Fine. I will be there in a minute. I need to put this up so nothing is damaged.”
Kevin leaned into her as he turned to leave.
“If you aren’t in the water in two minutes, I’m coming back for you.”
She watched him saunter across the beach to the water. He turned to look at her when the water reached his waist. Her back was to him. He watched her slide the cutoffs she was wearing down her legs. She meticulously folded them, before removing the oversized T-shirt. Kevin was not prepared for the royal blue bikini. He found himself transfixed as he watched her remove the clip holding her hair up. It cascaded down past the small of her back. He swallowed hard as he watched her lean her head back and run her fingers through her hair. He eyes followed the ends of hair as they brushed back and forth against her rear. He was still watching as she turned to face him. Her hips swayed as she moved to the water. He eyes traveled upward to see the swell of her breasts straining against the small triangles of fabric. He thought she would stop when she reached him. Instead she swam out to the others.
After a moment, he joined them. He found his patience wearing thin with each compliment Jordan received. The tiny suit did accentuate her every curve. Every curve Kevin had memorized in their short time together. Every curve currently on display for all to see.
Soon everyone grew tired of swimming and returned to the beach to work on tans. Jordan sat on a towel applying a sun block to her light skin. A shadow named Kevin blocked the sun.
“You want something,” asked Jordan not looking up.
“I thought I would help put some of that on your back.”
“I can manage.”
“Jordan don’t be so stubborn,” he said. The exasperation creeping into his voice.
Sighing, she said, “Alright.”
Kevin took the bottle. Squeezing lotion onto his hands, he went to work. Jordan secured her hair back in the clip. Kevin methodically covered her back. His big hands working out the kinks in her shoulders. She stopped him when she felt his hands moving up and down her sides, allowing his fingers to brush against the sides of her breasts.
Kevin insisted she return the favor. She moved her hands over his back. Feeling him respond. She stopped when a soft moan escaped his lips. Kevin laid a towel out beside hers. They lay sided by side in silence.
Before the sound of the water could lull Jordan to sleep, Kevin decided he wanted to go exploring. He insisted he would be fine without a guide or bodyguard. He started to leave, but turned back in what seemed to be an afterthought, asking Jordan to bring the camera. Jordan knew this was the reason he had been so quite while laying beside her. He was thinking of a way to get her alone. Skip agreed it was a great idea, so she was stuck.
Jordan made sure they were out of earshot before saying, “well you win. You got me alone. Now what do you want?”
Kevin matched her tone, “Why are you avoiding me?”
“You know exactly why I’m avoiding you.”
He stared at her for moment before saying, “fair enough. So what’s with the bikini?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean why didn’t you wear it at my house.”
“I didn’t own it then.”
“Oh?”
“No.”
“When did you buy it?”
“Last night.”
“Where?”
“In the shop at the hotel.”
“Did you bring a suit with you?"
“Yes.”
“Damn it Jordan stop that!”
“Stop what?”
“Being so damn difficult!”
“This ain’t difficult. When I’m difficult you’ll know it!”
“Why are you so pissed at me? And why did you buy this bikini last night.”
“Because of you! There you happy?”
“Me?”
“Yes you. I know you insisted I come today. It pissed me off that you didn’t keep your end of our deal. So I decided I would teach you a lesson.”
“Oh I see. You’re showing me what I can’t have.”
“That’s right!”
“I’m very aware of what I can’t have.”
“Good. Kristin will be with you in a couple of days. You can fuck until your sore for all I care. Just stop fucking with me!”
By this time they had walked far enough so the others wouldn’t even know there was an argument going on or be able to tell what Kevin was a about to do. He reigned Jordan in with one hand and used the other to turn her face to him. Before she could protest, his mouth came crashing down on hers. His tongue pushing it’s way into her mouth. Ending the kiss, he kept her pinned to him as his hand slid from her face down over her breast and back to cup her bottom.
“Don’t you get it? I don’t want my wife. You’re the only one I want to fuck until I’m sore.”
“Not happening Kevin. Now let go,” she ordered through clenched teeth. “You are not free. You have no right to say any of this. You can’t follow through on what you're saying. I will not give in and allow you to have both.”
“Are you asking me to choose?”
Her laugh was bitter.
“No! And don’t ask me to either.”
“What am I asking you to choose between?”
“Who controls me. For the record you loose. Now let go of me. Someone will get suspicious.”
Kevin relented. He looked down and saw the tautness of her nipples. Knowing she reacted to him caused him to harden. He had to know just how much he got to her.
“Jordan,” he all but whispered.
“What?”
“I need to know something and I’m not going to hurt you.”
Kevin took Jordan’s silence as her consent. With a quick glance around, he stepped closer. He allowed the back of his hand to brush down her body. His hand stopped between her legs where he cupped her. In one gentle move he pushed the fabric aside and his fingers slipped inside her wetness.
The sensation of his fingers pushing into her caused Jordan to gasp. Just as quickly, he removed his fingers. As he moved past her he spoke softly against her ear.
“I had to know baby. I had to know I got to you.”
Jordan didn’t move for a few moments. She didn’t need to look in order to know Kevin had slipped his fingers into his mouth as he walked away.
