CHAPTER 15
“You sure you know what you’re doing?”
“Will you hush!”
“I’m just saying.”
“You’re saying you don’t think I can do this.”
“Well…yeah.”
Jordan glared at Kevin, successfully shutting him up before going back to the task at hand. Her brow creased in concentration as she used a thread to slice through a layer of cake.
Over breakfast, she had told Kevin she knew how to make Red Velvet Cake from scratch. He made her call her mom for the recipe. The mid-afternoon sunlight streamed across the kitchen. As she finished slicing through the cake she stood up with a smirk.
“I thought you learned your lesson earlier Mr. Richardson.”
“I know. Never underestimate you.”
“Exactly.”
“It’s a pretty cool skill, I’ll give you that Ms Buchanan. Now do it again.”
Laughing Jordan went about cutting the second layer the same way. Kevin sat on the counter and watched her move around his kitchen. He really had underestimated her. Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined her having any domestic tendencies. However, the smells of the cake mixed with the scent of chicken with wild and long grain rice now baking in the oven proved him wrong. He had moved to the counter when she started putting together the chicken and rice dish. He did it to be in her way and hear her fuss at him. Her fussing made him smile.
He watched her move to the cabinet next to him. Reaching up for something with her left hand exposed most the skin under her arm. Something caught Kevin’s eye. It was a scar about an inch long and ran from the center of her armpit out. He couldn’t believe he missed it the night before. Kevin placed his fingers lightly against it causing Jordan to jump and let go of the bowl she was pulling off the shelf. She caught it before it hit the floor.
“Whew! Almost owed you a bowl,” she said in a strained voice.
“Jordan how’d you get the scare?”
“It happened a few years ago. No biggie.”
“I didn’t ask when, I asked how.”
“I know. Did you not understand I was avoiding your question?”
“Yes.”
“So now it’s avoided.”
“No it’s not.”
“Kevin want to tell me all about your wife?”
“What?”
“I don’t ask you about her. You don’t ask me about this.”
They stared for a moment before Kevin grunted and jumped off the counter. Stomping out of the kitchen, he went to his studio. More than an hour passed before Jordan entered the room.
“Dinner is ready.”
“I'll be out in a few,” he replied without looking at her.
“Sure. Take your time.”
Jordan left the door open. The smells of dinner soon pulled him out of the office. He walked out to the kitchen, but found it empty. The sliding door to the patio was cracked. Stepping out onto the patio he saw the table set with candles. A bottle of the white wine he had selected earlier was breathing.
“Kevin will you pour the wine?”
Kevin turned to see Jordan standing behind him, holding two plates. He stepped aside, letting her pass. He watched her move to the table. The skirt she wore tied on the side. It was black with large royal blue tropical flowers scattered on the material. It flowed around her ankles, allowing her bare feet to be seen. With the skirt she had added a white camisole made of eyelet cotton. A row of small pearl shaped buttons closed the camisole. She had left the top two buttons undone and when she leaned over to place the plates on the table he caught a glimpse of only bare skin. Her hair was in a loose bun. It was held in place with a pencil. He was taken by the grace of her movements as she walked toward him. Side stepping, she bumped hips with him as she went inside.
“The wine Kevin,” she said just above a whisper.
“Right,” he replied.
Jordan watched him when she came back out with the salad and bread. He had poured the wine and was taking a sip. If he had showered, he would look amazing in his jeans and wifebeater. Unfortunately, Kevin hadn’t been concerned with his hygiene for awhile. She watched him slightly limp as he moved to pull out a chair for her. She had watched him limp the whole tour. Setting everything down she allowed him to push in her chair. They talked and enjoyed the food.
“You’re a good cook.”
“Thanks.”
“More wine?”
“Please. It’s a nice night.”
“Yeah it is.”
During the lull in conversation, Jordan gave Kevin an appraising look. Feeling her eyes on him, he turned to look at her.
“What?”
“Your hair.”
“What about my hair?”
“It needs washing. Stay here.”
She disappeared inside the house. Kevin started carrying everything inside and loading the dishwasher.
“You didn’t do what I told you.”
“No. I wanted to clean up.”
“You really are anal aren’t you?”
“Yes and proud of it.”
“Alright Mr. Richardson, please come with me,” she requested, taking his hand.
She led him through his bedroom to the bath. She had filled the tub less than half full and added bubble bath. Without a word, she began to undress him. He smiled and helped when even on tiptoes she was not able to get his shirt off. He sucked in his breath as he felt her delicate fingers slide in the waistband of his pants to undo them. She was not surprised to discover no other clothing on him when she pushed his jeans off his hips.
Kevin sank down into the tub. Sighing as he watched her turn the water back on and increase the temperature as the tub filled. She began to wash him, starting at his feet. He moaned each time she applied pressure to the arch of a foot. Moving up his legs she felt him tense when she got to the knee he had surgery on. Bending it up out of the water she kissed the scare, before washing and massaging it. He felt himself harden as her hands moved up. He felt the soap slipping over his skin, followed by her hand as she gently began to massage him. He hardened more when she stroked him. She was not doing it to arouse him. The simple act of washing him was so intimate it made electricity shoot through his body. Too soon for his liking she moved up his body to finish washing him. He allowed her to lean him forward and washed his back. Standing, she tilted his head back and began wetting his hair.
He drifted off to this warm fuzzy place inside his head when she began to work shampoo through his hair. He wasn’t asleep, but he wasn’t awake either. She rinsed his hair using clean water from a pan beside the tub. He opened his eyes to watch her as she repeated the shampoo. Standing over him allowed the outline of her breasts to show through the thin cotton. He wanted to pull her down into the tub with him, but fought the urge.
Once the bath was done, Kevin stepped out of the tub covered in bubbles. Jordan again took his hand and led him to the shower, where she left him to rinse off. He turned off the water and shook some of the excess water out of his hair. Opening his eyes she saw her standing outside the shower with a towel. He stepped out and allowed her to dry him. She kneeled in front of him and worked up his legs. He shifted slightly when the towel softly grazed him. She looked at his hardness. He gasped when he felt her tongue flick against the tip. She smiled then licked again. She continued to tease him as he leaned against the wall for support. He reached down and pulled the pencil from her hair. He loved how her long, blonde hair spilled down over her shoulders, tickling his thighs.
"Baby stop," Kevin choked out.
"Why Kevin," she asked, lightly nibbling on his tip.
His back arched and he said, "God…because I want to be inside you."
"All you had to do was ask."
Jordan stood and led him to the bed. He sat down on the side and began undoing the buttons of her camisole. She giggled when he got impatient and resorted to pulling it over her head. His hands flew to the knot keeping her skirt on.
"Damn," he breathed, as he watched the material pool at her feet and she stood before him naked.
"What you're the only one who can go commando?"
"No, but we would have skipped dinner."
"Not after I cooked it. Besides we are missing dessert."
"This is the dessert I want," he growled pulling her down to straddle him.
This was what Jordan had expected last night, raw sexual hunger. Kevin was getting his dessert. He was feeding on her mouth, her flesh. His hands roamed over her body as he pressed his hardness against her, causing them both to moan. Kevin ignored his need the night before, but not this time. He moved them to the center of the bed. Using his knees to spread her legs wide, he pulled a condom from under the pillow. He placed it there the previous evening. He liked the look of lust in Jordan's eyes as she watched him put it on.
"Jordan," he whispered in a ragged voice as he entered her.
She arched into him. He braced on his hands and held his body above her. He watched as he pulled out then slid back into her warmth. The leftover dampness of his earlier bath and shower were now replaced with the sweat of desire. With each thrust he pressed against her. Jordan lay beneath him moaning. Her hips rising to meet his. She knew what he wanted. She knew he needed to see their bodies come together. He would hold her later when they made love again. Now he only wanted to concentrate on the pleasure he felt when moving in and out of her wonderful heat. He watched as she arched into him one last time and felt the spasms of her orgasm gripping him. Pushing into her one last time he groaned as his body tensed. As the tension left both of them, Kevin eased out of her, dropping the condom in the basket beside the bed. After a few moments, he rolled over and kissed her forehead. She smiled.
"I think I may need another shower."
"Yeah, but not yet. You're just going to get all sweaty again in a few minutes," she teased.
"Think so?"
"Know so."
"Hey where are you going?"
Jordan had hopped out of bed, but looked back at him and answered, "that was one dessert. I have another one in the kitchen. It will give the sugar rush necessary for round two."
She could hear him laughing all the way down the hall.
Chapter 16
Kevin arched. His hands were gripping the back of the couch. An hour earlier, he had teased Jordan about it being her favorite spot, when they were eating a very late breakfast. She stood up and ordered him to her spot. Little did he know when he slid into place that Jordan would spend an hour teasing him.
She kept stopping short of giving him what he wanted. At one point he tangled his fingers in her hair out of frustration. She surprised him by nipping his tip harder and telling him to let go. For an instant he thought to argue, but she untangled his hands and moved away.
After a few moments, he did something he had never done with another women; he apologized and asked her to come back. She did and now he watched her move on him. Stopping again she looked up at him. He liked the way her hair swirled down onto his thighs and the pink flush on her cheeks. Mostly he liked the fire behind her green eyes.
"Guess what?"
Kevin's was breathing hard and gasped out, "what?"
"I'm not stopping this time."
Kevin watched her grin at him before she took his tip in her mouth and swirled her tongue. Taking more of him in, he felt the back of her throat. He held his breath as he waited. She shifted slightly. He felt himself sliding all the way in. His hips jerked as his head dropped onto the back of the couch. She didn't let up until he pulled her away. He had never met anyone like her. She got to him in ways he never imagined. She kissed him and he deepened it.
"Worth the wait?"
"Yes," he hissed out on a sigh.
"I aim to please."
"Damn woman you have more than fulfilled that aim."
"I'm going for a swim. Your neighbors won't be peeking will they?"
"No. No one's home this time of day."
"Good."
He watched her bare bottom sway as she walked out of the room. He heard her dive in. He got up and joined her.
"Man I don't want to get back on the road."
"Tell me something not obvious."
"What?"
"It's very clear none of you want to."
"What are talking about?"
"It's been very clear to everyone, including your fans, that your hearts aren't in it."
"Damn I should have known that nice, sweet side I've been seeing wasn't real."
"Excuse me?"
"Last night and until just now, you were so sweet and loving. Should have known it wouldn't last."
"Kevin…forget it."
With that she was out of the pool and in the house. He waited a few minutes before going in. He stepped back into the greatroom as she walked in dressed and carrying a bag.
"I'm not stopping you this time."
"Pul-eeze, you can't make me run now."
"Oh…what are you doing?"
"I'm letting you see. You are in the middle of this whirlwind. You can't or won't see what is going on."
"Like what?"
"Give me a second to hook up everything and you can see."
She quickly connected her camera to the VCR so it would feed the footage she had to the TV. She flipped through her tapes. For the next two hours they went through the footage. Kevin for the first time was seeing how Backstreet was looking from the outside.
"And before you ask, no I have no intentions of sharing any of this footage with anyone. It stays with me until I destroy it at the end of the tour."
"So that's what we look like?"
"Yeah. Do you ever read things on the net?"
"Some. We have people who watch it for us."
"I suggest you go look."
"Come with me."
He pulled her to his office. He left her to get him online while he got dressed. Jordan pulled up and bookmarked some different message boards. They were ones she had read since before going on tour with them. She headed to the kitchen to fix dinner and left him to his reading.
"Dinner's ready."
"I don't know if I can eat."
"Kevin it's not that bad."
"The hell it isn't. They think we are just going through the motions. They have decided AJ is out of control. Is he?"
"You saw the tapes and you know him. At least he’s not isolating himself."
"You're right," he agreed then he chuckled. "Brother Brian! If they only knew how he use to be."
"I think they have an idea, but he as gotten very sanctimonious since his significant other came into his life. Also he's stopped trying with fans and it hurts them. I know getting the dogs taken was a freaky thing, but he's coming across as hostile."
"Of course they think Nick can do no wrong."
"Insecure much?"
"Huh?"
"Nick has finally gotten comfortable with being on stage. He's enjoying himself. He is at the same place you were about 5 years ago. Too bad the rest of you aren't there enjoying it with him."
"Gee Thanks!"
"Maybe if you had done the proper rehab and not be popping the vicadon then you might do better."
"What the hell do you know about it?"
"I know the surgery you had takes 6-8 months to rehab from. I know that general rule of thumb is no walking for the first month. I know you’re in enough pain that you can't hide it. I know you’re lethargic. You zoned out on MTV enough, Carson busted you on it. Also I never thought I would use the words ‘not clean’ when talking about you."
"I've not been on vicadon since I missed the Denver show," he exclaimed.
"Good. I figured as much, but wanted to hear it from you. Besides you're now self medicating with weed."
"Fuck."
"I'm sorry. Did you want me to lie to you? Kevin lesson #5, don't ask me what I think because I will tell you. Now I'm eating dinner. Join me or not…up to you."
After a subdued dinner, they watched a movie. Jordan knew Kevin was thinking. She left him to it. She enjoyed his bathtub one last time. She was soaking when Kevin came in to take a shower. She watched as he dried his hair. Shutting off the hairdryer, he looked at her in the mirror. Picking up a towel he walked over to the tub. She allowed him to dry her off.
"Come to bed with me," he whispered.
Once in bed, he reached for her. Pulling her back to spoon against him. He buried his nose in her hair. She shifted slightly.
"No. Don't pull away. I just want to hold you."
"Just getting comfortable."
"I need to hold you. Tomorrow…" he trailed off.
"Tomorrow we go back to the way it was."
"Except I will be watching everything and worrying."
Turning to face him, she said, "Kevin you don't have to do it. You shouldn't do it."
"No?'
"No. You get through this trip to Mexico. After that you guys get almost a month off. Everyone can rest. Give them a week. Meet and talk about this honestly. Y'all haven't been talking. You need to make a decision."
"A decision I didn't think I would make this soon."
"You haven't made it yet. You may not. If you don't, then you need to get focused as a team. Deal with your demons and move forward."
"You make it sound so easy."
"See the crappy thing is things that sound easy never are. Now sleep," she directed, rubbing the worry lines from his forehead.
"Thanks."
"Your welcome, but for?"
"Being a friend."
"No problem."
Turning back over she snuggled closer to his body. Soon she was asleep. Kevin allowed her slow, easy breathing to lull him to sleep.
