CHAPTER 13
Stepping into the bedroom after her shower Jordan saw what Kevin had selected for her to wear. Lying on the bed was a white linen sundress. Beside it lay a lace panty and bra set also in white. Kevin had good taste; she would give him that much. Pulling on the outfit, Jordan quickly french braided her hair and went out to the kitchen.
"You look very nice," complimented Kevin.
"Thanks. How did you know my size."
"I’m a good guesser."
"Oh I see."
"Here have a seat. Would you like some wine?"
"Please."
Throughout dinner conversation flowed. They had both managed to shut out the world. For now they could just be there together. Dinner was wonderful. Kevin smiled at Jordan's compliments. She took her time eating. Kevin was amused when she made sure he brought the bottle of wine with him when they moved to the main room.
She stood by the fireplace looking at the gold album hanging beside it. She caught Kevin's reflection in the glass. She shivered when she felt his index finger delicately trace the line of her neck and shoulders.
Putting some distance between them she moved to the couch. Kevin didn't follow her immediately. He chose to continue looking at the gold record.
"Kevin are you looking forward to Mexico?"
"Sure. You?"
"I suppose."
"Why suppose?"
"I've never been that far out of the country. Sometimes being with you guys is overwhelming."
"You think it's overwhelming?"
"Hello…you haven’t been in the same place for more than three nights since you left rehearsals back in January. I've adjusted. I do like you guys."
"What do we do?"
"You just put blinders on and move forward. You knew this break was coming. You moved toward it. It's like working a regular job where you get weekends off. You just have bigger chunks of time to work through. Still it takes some getting use to."
"I suppose I've gotten use to it," he said turning on the stereo. Brian McKnight filled the room. "Enough talk about outside of here. Jordan dance with me."
He had dimmed the lights, before coming to stand in front of her. Jordan took the hand offered her. He pulled her close and began to move them in small circles. Relaxing, Jordan rested her head against his chest. As she breathed in he smelled of oregano and thyme, left over scents from dinner.
"Jordan look at me," he whispered and she obeyed.
He searched her eyes for a moment before dipping he head to capture her lips. They tasted of wine and dinner. Cupping her face in his hands, he deepened the kiss. Her warm hands slid from his chest up into his hair. Massaging the tense cords in the back of his neck, she felt him moan into her mouth. When they broke apart, she looked up lazily through half-closed lids. Her eyes were green pools of desire. It seemed as if he had waited a lifetime see that look in her eyes.
Without a word Jordan led the way to the bedroom. Besides the clothes he had laid out, Kevin had also set up candles by the bed. Jordan began lighting them. Kevin turned off the light in the room and walked to where she stood.
"I like your hair like this," he whispered against the crook of her neck.
"Mmm…good."
Kevin raked his teeth gently over the curve of her neck and asked, "You like this?"
"MmmHmmm."
"Good," he whispered.
It was the last words spoken between them. Kevin moved to the other side of her neck and began his teasing again. He loved the feel of her hand in his hair. Breaking away from her, he didn't allow her to turn around. Instead Jordan felt the slight tug of him removing the band from the end of her hair. Then she felt him painstakingly unbraid her hair. He was amazed it was still damp. With the braid completely undone, Kevin began running his fingers through it from scalp to ends. Finally he gathered it up in his hands buried his nose in it.
He draped her hair over one shoulder and slowly unzipped the dress. Sliding his fingers under the straps, he pulled them from her shoulders and the dress pooled at her feet.
"Baby you're sunburned," he said.
"I turn pink."
Kevin accepted her explanation and pulled her back against him. She was so soft. His hands moved slowly around her, tracing her ribs. He watched her suck in a breath. He nibbled on her ear as his hands cupped her breast, which were still covered in delicate white lace. He felt one hand again move up into his hair. The other reached up and rested against one of his. After a moment, Kevin's hands moved to the front clasp on the bra. As he moved the material together to loosen the clasp it caused her breast to strain more against the material. The sight made him harder. He never took his eyes off her breast as he exposed them and dropped the bra to the floor. Once she was free of the bra, Jordan slid both hands back up into Kevin's hair. This simple movement caused her body to arch away from his and gave him a perfect view of her breasts. He fingers drew lazy circles before closing on them.
Jordan felt suspended. The hardness of Kevin's body behind her counteracted the softness of his hands and lips. The heat of his body burning into her back while cool air bathed her front. Kevin was teasing her nipples. As she felt her knees begin to buckle, she also found herself facing Kevin with his mouth attached to a nipple. She whimpered at the sensation of his warm mouth pulling on her. The tugging sensation went straight through her body and just as suddenly she felt cool air against where the sensation was going to, but just as suddenly as the cool air was there, it was gone again. Kevin had pushed the lacy material to the side and replaced it with his hand. There was no hiding how excited she was. Kevin growled against her breast as his finger entered her.
She wasn't sure when, but at some point he had moved them to the bed. He was now sitting. His mouth still moving between her breasts, with one arm wrapped tightly around her while the fingers of his free hand were sliding in and out of her. She knew if Kevin let go, she would fall to the floor.
"Jordan baby does that feel good?"
"Yes," she whimpered.
"That's all I want baby. To make you feel good," he replied as licked his way to her belly button.
"Kevin," she let out in a gasp as she felt him swirl his tongue around her belly button.
"Let go baby."
Jordan's orgasm caught her off guard. Hearing his voice telling her to let go caused her to do just that…let go.
Kissing back up her body to capture her mouth, Kevin slipped his fingers from her. He felt her legs shake and pulled her down on his lap. Sucking on her top lip, he moved to lay her down on the bed. He could see in her face how vulnerable she felt. Before she could retreat he lay down and pulled her into his arms. He kissed the top of her head and rubbed her back until he lulled her to sleep.
Chapter 14
Jordan opened her eyes slowly to find Kevin still sleeping. It took a couple of seconds for her to get her bearings. Once she remembered the night before she fought the urge to run. They were lying on top of the bedcover, Kevin still half dressed and her barely dressed at all. Slowly she eased from under his arm.
Grabbing her bag she found the guest bathroom. Stepping into the shower, she allowed her tears to mix with the steamy water. She had forgotten what it was like to feel so vulnerable. She didn’t like it one little bit. In an instant she made up her mind, she was getting out of there. The bet be damned.
She barely dried off before she pulling on clothes. Slipping back into Kevin’s room to grab her equipment bag. Kevin woke as she started out the door.
“Mornin’. Why didn’t you wake me?”
“You needed sleep.”
“Where ya goin’?”
“No place. Wanted to get this bag.”
“Oh Ok.”
Kevin lay back as she walked out of the room. Rubbing his eyes in attempt to wake up. Suddenly he bolted from the bed. He reached her as she opened the door.
“Going somewhere?”
Jumping she answered, “yes.”
“What about the bet?”
“Bet’s over. I’m gone.”
“You can’t. You won’t,” he said. “I mean what are you going to do? Walk to the airport?”
“No. I’m walking to the nearest pay phone and calling a cab. Goodbye.”
“Jordan shut the door,” he ordered then softened his tone. “Please. Tell me what’s wrong, then if you still want to leave, you can. I’ll take you to the airport.”
Jordan weighed her options. Common sense told her he would never let her out of the house. Now she had no choice but to stay for a bit, but she wasn’t explaining. Shutting the door she walked back to her favorite spot, the couch.
“You want something to eat?”
“No.”
“Coffee?”
“No.”
“Fine. I’m making coffee then we talk.”
Jordan was so lost in thought, she didn’t know he was back until he spoke.
“Jordan here,” he said, offering her a cup before taking a chair across from her. “It should be the way you like it.”
She took a sip and said, “I didn’t you know paid attention.”
“I’ve always paid attention to you. Ever since I first saw you.”
He watched her cheeks flush at the memory of him catching her dancing. He continued, “are you going to explain why you’re leaving?”
“No.”
His jaw clenched as he fought to control his temper.
“Jordan what have you heard about me?”
“What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean. Is that what scares you?”
“What? You mean the fact that you like to push things?”
“Yes. Are you afraid of pain?”
“No,” she snapped.
“It’s ok to be a little scared of something you’ve never experienced.”
“Well thank you Mr. Richardson for your concern,” she interrupted.
“What is your problem,” he asked. The volume of his voice rising.
“My problem is you. You think you have me all figured out.”
He relaxed back into the chair and with a sarcastic tone said, “why don’t you enlighten me on my misconceptions Ms Buchanan. Because what I’m seeing right now is a frightened little girl trying to run from the big bad wolf.”
Jordan looked around before replying, “I don’t see a wolf in here. I see a man who thinks he’s a bad ass. A man use to controlling when his darkness comes out. You wanted me to enlighten you? You got it.”
She stood and walked toward him, putting on her most innocent face. She gently caressed his face, letting her fingers skim over the stubble along his jaw line.
“Misconception 1 – I’m not a frightened little girl. It takes far more than you can dish out to scare me.”
Moving to beside his chair and allowing her hand to travel lightly over his collarbone she continued, “Misconception 2 – That I see you as the big bad wolf. You may be a wolf but I’ve been with the devil and he would terrify you.”
She now stood behind his chair. Leaning down she ran her nails down his chest to stop at the waistband of his pants. “Misconception 3 – you fancy yourself my teacher. Wrong…give me control and I will teach you what it means to be the master.”
“Misconception 4 – And Kevy this is the last one so pay attention,” she whispered as one of her hands trailed up his body and into his hair. Her mouth was close to his ear and he shuddered when her warm breath heated it. In an instant there was pain as she yanked his head back and continued pulling on his hair. “I will not allow you to mind fuck me.”
Letting go of his hair she moved back to her seat on the couch. She didn’t flinch when he yanked her up by the arm.
He roared, “what the hell was that for?”
“Let go of me,” she requested quietly.
“Answer me.”
“Its called enlightening Kevin. You asked. I answered. Now let go of me.”
When he let go, she sat back down and took a sip of her coffee.
“Kevin the most important thing you learned today was never underestimate me.”
“I would suggest the same of you,” he retorted.
“Oh I’m very aware that I underestimated you, but I have learned my lesson.”
“Explain how I mind fucked you.”
“Kevin this whole little set up is intended to give you the upper hand. You aren’t living up to our agreement.”
“How am I not?”
“You agreed that we would do this and then walk away.”
“So?”
“So you are trying to make sure I can’t walk away. Wait…Let me finish. I underestimated you, because I didn’t realize you couldn’t do something like this. You need me to be attached to you emotionally.”
“I need for us to be emotionally attached?”
“I didn’t say ‘we’. I said ‘me’. You demand loyalty of everyone close to you. The way you get that from your women is to have them fall in love with you.”
“No I don’t!”
“Yes you do!”
“No!”
“Kevin,” she chided.
“Jordan.”
“Kevin,” she teased.
“Jordan,” he replied, fighting a smile.
“Aren’t I just the most annoying person?”
“Yes,” he said with a pout.
Laughing she said, “suck it up Richardson. I am not going to fall in love with you. Sorry for being so much like you in this area. I can compartmentalize the heck out of you. I learned along time ago to separate things. But know this…I won’t betray you.”
He studied her for a moment then said, “I believe you.”
“So no more mind fuck?”
“No more mind fuck.”
“Good, now I’m starving!”
With Jordan’s declaration, they shifted from dealing with reality into enjoying the little fairytale.
