CHAPTER 9
By the time the buses were heading to their next destination, a plan was in place to catch Mike. Skip had talked with the legal department. They agreed Mike could come after the Boys, because technically Jordan did break into his room to find the tapes.
Jordan rode with Nick to the next stop. Mike had witnessed her getting off the bus when they checked into the hotel. Jordan made a point of trying to sneak off the bus. Mike caught Nick hanging out with Jordan a few times at the venue before the show. He filmed her “sneaking” back on the bus just before they pulled out after the show.
He was practically dancing to his bus. He knew he would get a decent check for the pictures he could supply, but he wanted more. He wanted to catch them in the middle of something.
They had a night off after the next show and everyone went bowling. Nick and Jordan were paired. Nick kept giving her lessons on bowling. Jordan kissed Nick’s cheek when he bowled a strike. Mike was too busy filming to play.
At one point in the evening, he managed to get a very unhappy Leighanne complaining to her husband about stopping Jordan. Brian agreed he was worried about Jordan’s motive for befriending Nick. Leighanne thought it was more than befriending Nick. She felt the older woman was about to take Nick for a ride.
The party was moved back to the hotel bar. Mike again was following every move the new couple made. Shortly after arriving at the bar, Jordan called it an evening. Five minutes after she left Nick said goodnight, making a point of telling Billy to stay and relax. Mike followed him out of the bar and hid behind some plants when he saw Jordan standing by the back elevators.
“Hey you.”
“Hey. See you managed to give Billy the slip.”
“I told you I could,” replied Nick as he leaned his back against the wall.
“Yes you did,” agreed Jordan.
She reached for the elevator button, but Nick stopped her. Pulling her toward him, he said, “I’ve been waiting all night to do this.”
Jordan allowed herself to be pulled into his arms. Closing her eyes, she felt Nick’s lips brush against hers. They were tentative at first, but then he relaxed and kissed her properly. Her fingers found their way into his hair. Jordan forced herself to pull away after a minute or two.
“Nick we can’t do this out here in the open.”
“Alright,” he sighed as he pushed the elevator button.
He again pulled her to him. The elevator doors opened and she pulled him inside.
“Now it’s not so open,” she giggled as she kissed him.
The doors shut. Mike couldn’t believe what he had just seen. This was big. He quickly rewound the tape and made sure he had it. He let out a cackle as he pulled his cell a from pocket and dialed. He was bouncing from one foot to the other while listening to the message.
“It’s Mike. Man you are not going to believe what I’ve got for you. Call me as soon as you get this message. You’re going to love me. I’m telling you call me.”
Mike hung up and felt his camera being taken from him.
“What the hell?”
“Billy is just taking care of BSB property.”
“Huh?”
“Mike you’re fired,” answered Skip with a smile.
Mike immediately went into attack mode. He grabbed for the camera, only to find his feet leaving the ground as Carlos and Marcus pulled him back. Skip led the way to Mike’s room. Mike had to sit and watch while all the tapes in the room were confiscated. He threatened to sue, but realized he didn’t have a leg to stand on. Skip also pointed out that while he was working for the Backstreet Boys they had final approval over anything released to the public. He had violated his contract and now he was fired. Skip also explained should he try to sell his story, the Boys attorneys would be in touch. As he said they didn’t have to win to prove anything, they only needed to keep it tied up in court indefinitely. By morning, Mike was gone.
The following day everyone was gathered in the Boys dressing room. The guys had insisted on see the tapes.
“Baby you did a good job,” complimented Brian.
“Thanks Baby.”
“Really Leighanne I don’t think we would have gotten rid of Mike so fast without you,” agreed Jordan. She cut her eyes at AJ and Nick, when they made faces.
“Thanks Jordan. I wanted to help get him out of here.”
“Ohhh here comes the kissing,” teased AJ grabbing the remote and turning up the volume.
“Do we have to watch this,” asked Nick and Jordan in unison.
“Yes!”
“Fine.”
Both Nick and Jordan blushed slightly as they watched. Kristen had been bored watching everything, until she noticed how closely her husband was watching the couple on the screen. She saw something in his eyes she didn’t like…jealousy.
“Too bad Mike’s gone. You guys could have continued to play your parts,” teased AJ making kissing sounds when the tape finished.
“That’s OK,” said Jordan. “Nick’s a great kisser and all but I’m glad Mike’s gone.”
“Yeah,” agreed Nick and Jordan noted the look on his face.
“Yeah it’s good this is over,” agreed Kevin. “You don’t need to keep pretending now.”
“True. Guys you have to get ready,” directed Skip and everyone began to move around.
Kristen leaned into Kevin and whispered, “why do you care if they pretend?”
“It’s not that Kristen. I just wanted the leak stopped. I’m sure you don’t want another one of our fucking arguments published again,” he whispered back.
“No.”
“Then get off my back,” he snapped.
Kevin stood and walked over to his wardrobe trunk. Kristen followed. She reached for his bicep and pressed her nails into his skin just enough to cause discomfort. In another hushed tone she reminded him.
“I know you Kevin Richardson. I can read you. So you deal with this fascination or I will.”
Kevin calmly circled his index finger and thumb around her wrist and tightened as he replied, “there is no fascination.”
Kristen bit her bottom lip as she felt him tighten his fingers again. Kevin, feeling he had made his point let go of her. She didn’t touch her wrist until she walked out of the room.
Kevin glanced around the room and locked eyes with Nick. He challenged the younger man with his eyes and was surprised when Nick didn’t react at all. Kevin turned back to his case and began getting ready.
Chapter 10
Delaney watched her friend film AJ playing around on a forklift. She had hooked up with the tour in Chicago earlier in the day. It had been a week since Jordan had called saying they caught Mike and he was now gone.
With Mike out of the picture and with Jordan’s experience of filming the events for the arena, the task of filming the segments for the Online Fan Club became her responsibility. Delaney laughed at AJ as he honked the horn then jumped off the forklift in time for Nick to run into him. Nick seeing the camera on made a beeline for Jordan, while pulling the hood of his white sweatshirt up.
“Hello Nick.”
“Luke your powers have grown,” said Nick quoting Star Wars. “I am Obie Wan.”
Jordan couldn’t help but laugh as Nick turned away from her. Turning off the camera, she said, “you’re a dork.”
“Yeah but you love me.”
“That so?”
“Yep,” he said as he pulled her into a headlock.
“Nick let her breathe,” called Delaney.
Letting go he walked over to Delaney and threw an arm around her shoulder, “You having fun?”
“Anytime I’m not working is fun.”
“Well crap I thought I might talk you into helping me some,” stated Jordan, walking with them down the hallway.
“Now why would I do a stupid thing like that?”
“I don’t know, because you’re my friend and I’m exhausted?”
“You do look really tired. Taking on the little video job is adding to your stress huh?”
“You could say that.”
“Business talk, I’m out of here,” Nick said, ducking into the dressing room.
“Wuss,” Jordan called after him.
“Come on grumpy. I’ll help you,” offered Delaney.
After the show in Chicago, they had a two day break and the two friends enjoyed the time off.
Following the Detroit show, time had been booked in a Minneapolis studio to complete some work on Krystal’s first album. Jordan went with them to film and Delaney tagged along for fun.
Delaney was again watching Jordan film AJ and Nick. This time they were playing Ping Pong and later shooting Pool. Nick lost at both and was none too pleased. Jordan taped it all. She took a break and joined Delaney and Marcus.
“That boy don’t like loosing,” observed Delaney, which brought a deep chuckle from Marcus.
“No he don’t,” agreed Jordan. “But he will eventually learn more constructive ways to deal with his irritations.”
Just then Kevin came down to the playroom to collect AJ for some recording. AJ grabbed Jordan and Delaney on his way up the steps. Jordan went into the booth with AJ and Krystal. Delaney moved into the control room.
In the short time she had been there Delaney had noticed a few things. First was the ease with which Jordan fit in with everyone. Second, no matter how exhausted Jordan was; she was loving every minute of being on this tour. Third Kevin Richardson always seemed to have an eye out for her, watching her.
Even now as they got AJ focused and singing, Kevin was watching Jordan. . Krystal had handed her a headset, so you could listen. Kevin wasn’t just watching her with objective detachment. No he was watching her every move. Delaney watched his eyes travel down Jordan’s body as she moved to the music. She stifled a giggle when he shift in his chair as his eyes watched Jordan’s bottom move. No doubt about it, this man was enamoured. Too bad he wasn’t available.
Riding back to the hotel, Jordan was very aware every inch of Kevin Richardson’s body, that could, was pressed against her. He had made sure he pulled her into the van behind him. Damn he smelled good. She looked at him and knew he was perfectly aware of what he was doing. He wanted her to react to him. This realization was enough to make her fight it. She leaned forward to speak to Delaney.
“Del what do you want to do tonight?”
“Get drunk.”
“My kind of woman,” joked AJ as he hugged her. “Jordan you can go and be the designated buddy.”
“Won’t we go in a van,” asked Delaney.
“Well yeah, but you know responsible Jordan will just get her usual water.”
“Responsible Jordan? Water? I know she doesn’t drink when she drives, but still…Jordan hasn’t gone out partying with you guys?”
“I have. I just didn’t drink.”
“Well we're drinking tonight,” declared Delaney.
“Jordan don’t worry after you have your glass of wine, I'll look out for you.”
“Big of you Nick.”
“Why do I get the feeling there is more to this story,” said Kevin, thinking he might be getting another lesson on Jordan Buchanan.
“Ask the hockey player,” snorted Delaney.
“Delaney shut up,” warned Jordan.
“What hockey player” asked Marcus, joining in the second he saw Jordan blush.
“Oh the hockey player who pissed her off.”
“What did she do,” asked Nick, getting excited.
“Let’s just say he never expected a girl her size to pick him up and send him through the air.”
“What?” exclaimed the others in the van.
Sighing, Jordan said, “if you are going to tell this, tell it right. He was trying to pick a fight with a friend and reached over my head. I had lost my buzz and sense of humor so I lifted him about 6 inches off the ground and shoved him backwards.”
“Damn,” replied AJ. “Woman what were you drinking.”
“Vodka.”
“Her drink of choice,” offered Delaney. “Now ask her how many shots she did.”
“How many,” asked Nick with wide eyes.
“9”
“In what amount of time,” prompted Delaney.
Giving her friend an evil stare, Jordan answered, “70 minutes.”
“Shit,” breathed out Kevin.
“When I decide to drink, I can,” she stated, arching a brow at him.
“So I see.”
“OK kiddies we are out of here,” directed Marcus.
Everyone piled out and headed inside the hotel.
"Friend you are in deep shit," whispered Jordan as they walked through the lobby.
"Friend I don’t care," returned Delaney. "I'm out of here in two days."
