CHAPTER 21
"What are we going to do about AJ," asked Howie, they were sitting in his Boston hotel room.
"Why do we have to do anything about him," asked Nick.
"Nick don't be stupid!"
"Kevin don't take it out on Nick."
“Brian he can’t be a kid about this!”
“Fuck you Kevin! I’m out of here.”
“Nick sit! We all have to talk about this,” stated Howie.
“Fine,” said Nick, sitting down hard.
“I don’t like this anymore than any of you do, but he can’t keep going on like this,” explained Brian. “Nick you know it’s true.”
After a moment, Nick conceded, “yeah, but it’s about him and nothing else.”
“We all agree.”
“Then don’t call me stupid!”
Kevin bowed his head and said, “sorry about that. You’re not stupid Nick.”
“So we deal with this tomorrow,” asked Howie.
“Man, it’s gonna to be hard to act like nothin’s wrong,” commented Nick.
“Actually it may be easier than you think,” replied Brian.
“Why?”
“AJ’s shut us all out. We’ll probably only see him at the venue.”
After a few minutes, the four men dispersed to their rooms. Each of them left to deal with their conscience alone. Knowing an intervention was the right thing to do and feeling good about it were two entirely different things.
Jordan knew the meeting was happening. She checked on Nick. He was very upset about it all, but knew it was the only solution. They had to try to reach AJ, before it was too late. He also let it slip about Kevin calling him stupid. He practically had to sit on her to keep from going after Kevin before he could explain Kevin had apologized.
After leaving Nick, Jordan still went in search of Kevin only to learn he had gone out. She asked the front desk to notify her the minute he came back. Fortunately she only had to wait a couple of hours for the call.
She was waiting for him when he got off the elevator.
“So you had to call my favorite Boy stupid?”
“Shit! I apologized,” he exclaimed. “I’m going to kick his ass.”
“No you’re not. He told me you apologized.”
“Then what’s the problem?”
“The problem is your upset and taking it out on everyone.”
He stopped as he pushed the door to his room open. “What do you want Jordan?”
“I’m want to help.”
“You want to help?”
“Yes,” answered Jordan following him into the room.
“Can you get AJ to stop?”
“No.”
“Then you can’t help. Everything else is going to explode, because he can’t get his act together. And yes I know all the psycho-babble shit about how it’s a disease and he’s sick, but why now?”
“It’s been happening. It’s just now y’all can’t pretend it isn’t happening. You also figured out ignoring the situation will no longer make it go away.”
“So how are you going to help again?”
“I’m here if you need me.”
“I’m fine. So go help someone else,” replied Kevin, his tone more biting than he meant.
Jordan was shocked for a moment. He could see it in her face and braced himself for the fury he was sure would come.
Instead, Jordan quietly said, “I’ll be in my room.”
He watched her start to leave.
As she closed the door, she said, “Kevin if you change your mind…call.”
He looked around the outer room of the suite and instantly felt the weight of its emptiness. He moved through the suite to the bathroom. Standing under a hot shower was doing nothing to eliminate the tension in his body. Drying off, he moved to the bed. Surfing channels proved there was nothing on. He looked through the room service menu…nothing.
He felt like a caged animal and a basketcase at the same time. He was angry at the limits of his ability to fix this situation. He felt guilty for not taking control sooner. He was sad, because they had all danced with the devil, but all had gotten away. Except AJ. Or had they? Growling he began to pace through the suite. He needed to do something or he would go nuts. What would help? Jordan...the answer stopped him in his tracks.
She said she would help. Said to call if he needed her. God it had been so long since he had allowed someone to know he needed them or their help. Could he trust her to help? Yes, but would she? He knew he had hurt her earlier. How could a woman who wouldn’t give into him also be the very person to help him now? He didn’t know the answer, but he knew he needed her and for once that had to be enough. He picked up the phone in the outer room and called down to have them connect him to Jordan’s room.
“Hello?”
“Jordan?”
“Yes.”
“I need you.”
He was stunned by the click of the line being disconnected. He tried her room again, but no answer. His shoulders slumped as he hung up the phone. A knock at the door startled him.
He cracked the door to see her standing there. Their eyes locked for a moment. He opened the door wider and extended his hand. She took it and allowed him to gently pull her into the room.
"Jordan open your eyes," he quietly demanded.
Her eyes opened and he commanded, "look at me."
Her green eyes showed her desire. It spurred Kevin on. He wanted to possess her. Possess her the way she possessed him. It was hours after she had appeared at his door. They had spent time talking. The talking gave way to holding, which turned into kissing and led them to this.
"Let me in," he implored as he thrust into her.
"No."
"Let me in," again he requested as he thrust.
"No," she replied again as she tightened around him.
"Let me in," he begged as his body tightened and twisted against her.
He collapsed against her, gasping. As he regained control of his body he felt her trembling and the wetness of her tears against his shoulder. Lifting his head, he saw her eyes were shut tightly, yet the tears still escaped. His lips dipped to stop the tears from sliding down her cheeks then came to rest against her lips.
"Why?"
Jordan's voice caught as she answered, "because until you walk away from her and end it you can never be mine."
He slid a hand along their bodies until it wrapped around her thigh, pulling it up so he could push further into her.
"How can you say you won't let me in when I'm inside you like this."
"This is our bodies Kevin. You've always been good at keeping things separate. Did you think no woman could do the same?"
Kevin started to separate from her, but she immediately wrapped her legs tighter around him.
"What's wrong Kevin? I'm not so desirable now?"
"Stop it Jordan."
"Kevin stop," she soothed. "You need rest. This weekend is only going to get worse."
He stared down at her for a moment then said, "I will never understand you or what you do to me."
"Kevin I've never lied to you. You can't see me, because you aren't ready to. Now sleep."
His brows knitted together. The sweat now dry on his skin caused a shiver and he reached for the covers. He tasted her lips a final time before laying his head beside hers. She felt his body relax against hers.
She loved feeling the weight of him. It helped keep her grounded. It helped dull the ache she felt from knowing this prideful man was not hers. Yet she was still there for him, because he needed her. She couldn’t deny him the comfort she could give. Running her fingers through his hair and down his back lulled both of them into sleep.
Chapter 22
Light coming into the room woke Kevin. Even without opening his eyes he knew they had shifted in their sleep. Now they lay on their sides, facing with legs still tangled together. He watched her sleep. How different she was from…sighing he dismissed the thought. Instead he thought of how different she was now in sleep from when she was awake. Now he could hold her close. It allowed him the illusion that he was her protector. He drank in her beauty that during this time had such innocence to it.
The phone rang and he cursed it for disturbing this moment. Shifting he picked up the receiver and hung it up. Turning back he saw her eyes fluttering open and she stifled a yawn. Her body stretching against his stirring his desire. Before she could wake fully he began to coax her into a warm cocoon of pleasure. He had to feel her body above him. Rolling to his back he watched as her hair fell over her shoulders, hiding her breast from his view. Hands on her hips he lifted her so he could gain entry. Once she was settled on him, his hands disappeared into the silkiness of her hair. Moaning, he found her nipples hard. Jordan braced her hands on his chest and began to move on him. She blocked out everything but him. Feeling him moved under her and his hands on her. Hearing his moans matching hers. Kevin thought his heart would explode when Jordan threw her head back. In that moment he felt she was his. She was completely exposed to him. Her back arched, eyes closed as she pressed down on him. Her nails pressing into his flesh, marking him. He had never wanted to be marked like he did at that moment. It meant that he was hers. This coupled with the thought of her carrying him inside her pushed him over the edge.
It was Jordan's turn to collapse on Kevin's chest as both allowed their bodies to cool. He smoothed her hair away from her face and was surprised to see fear. In an instant he understood and he pulled her mouth to his.
Jordan said, "stop."
"Shhh. It's ok," whispered Kevin. The phone rang again. "Hello? Yeah I'm up. OK. I will be down in 15."
"I'll get out of here," said Jordan as she started to pull away.
Kevin was stronger and faster, so she found herself under him.
"Kevin!"
"Jordan don't run. I have to go right now, but stay here and wait for me."
"Kevin…"
"No listen to me. I don't have it all worked out right now, but I promise I will. We will."
He was searching her eyes frantically. She had to take this step. He was sitting there with his soul laid bare. He watched the struggle of her mind and heart playing out on her face. Sighing, her eyes closed and his hopes were instantly dashed. Then he heard her soft whisper.
"I'll stay."
"You will? OK. Good! God I don't want to leave now. I'll be back soon," he said in a rush.
Suddenly he went silent and then kissed her again. Before she could react he was out of the bed and in the bathroom. She lay back as she heard the shower turn on. Her mind was reeling, but when she closed her eyes her heart spoke to her mind clearly. She loved him. A fact she could no longer deny.
Soon the door opened and Kevin walked out of the steamy room. Her heart skipped a beat as her eyes traveled down his body.
"Damn I want to climb back in that bed and love you into oblivion," he said.
Licking her lips to tease him she said in a throaty voice, "you think you can rise to the occasion again this morning."
"I think it's already happened," he said with a smirk.
"Ah yes, but you have to go," she teased as she moved to her knees on the bed allowing the sheet to drop.
Groaning Kevin turned from her to rummage through his clothes. "I'm not looking at you woman. I have to get dressed."
He felt her small hands skim over the curve of his butt a second before they moved around and her body was pressed against his. Her lips skimmed across his back as her hand wrapped around him. A strangled moan escaped his lips as she stroked him.
"Jordan," sighed Kevin.
"Yes?"
"You aren't playing fair."
"You're point being?"
"Damn it woman," he said through clenched teeth as he pulled her around him and set her on the credenza. Another strangled moan left his mouth when a knock interrupted them.
"Kevin, come one we've got to go," called Carlos.
"Ok one second," replied Kevin as he hastily threw on clothes. Looking at the smirk on Jordan's face he kissed her soundly. "You will pay for this woman."
"Yeah sure," She said as she hopped off the credenza and walked to the bathroom. "You know the quicker you get done with this, the quicker you get back here."
"What are you going to do while I'm gone?"
"Take a bath. Order room service. Think about you. Now go," she ordered as she walked into the bathroom.
She heard him leave. She began filling the tub with water, while selecting bubble bath from the basket full of goodies on the vanity. As the tub continued to fill she eased down into the bubbles. Singing softly to herself, she soaked in the tub.
The longer she was in the tub the more doubts crept into her head. She was going against what she promised herself. She was letting Kevin in when he was not free. Fear began to take hold of her. As she stepped out of the tub and into the shower to wash off the bubbles she resolved to trust Kevin. He promised he would work this out and he would.
She grabbed the robe hanging on the back of the door and walked out into the suite. She was in the process of picking up her clothes from the previous day when the door to the suite opened.
"Wow that was fast. Everything ok."
"Shit they gave me the wrong key."
Jordan's blood chilled as she turned to face the last person she expected to see.
"Wait a minute those are Kevin's suitcases," stated Kristin, looking confused until she looked at Jordan. "What the hell are you doing in my husband's room?"
Jordan's mind went into survival and protect mode and she said, "hi Kristin. A bunch of us were hanging out in Nick's room last night. I got a look at his tub and asked if they all had them. Told'em I was jealous because I would spend all my free time soaking in one if I had it. Kevin was nice and said I could use his tub while he was out this morning. I know he will be so happy to see you. The last couple of days have been stressful. Well I've collected everything. I will call down to the front desk have them deliver a replacement robe."
Kristin had taken a seat on the bed. She watched the other woman hastily scramble for the door as it opened.
"Jordan I'm back."
"Hi Kevin. Thanks for letting me use your tub."
"My tub," he asked as he prevented her from leaving.
"Yeah. Now I will get out of the way."
"Wait you said,"
"I said I would be out of here before you got back. I'm sorry. I got too comfortable. Now I'm out of here so you can enjoy your surprise."
"My surprise?"
"Surprise," said Kristin.
Kevin looked from Jordan to Kristin, his mind going numb. He felt Jordan push past him and then he was being propelled into the room by Carlos.
