Welcome!

to an organization of people who want to promote the music of Fort Worth, Texas, aka "Cowtown"

The COWTOWN SOCIETY OF WESTERN MUSIC was formed in 1999,
to preserve, promote, and educate the public about the rich western music heritage of Fort Worth, Texas.

Western music is very much a part of the history and heritage of the State of Texas, and more particularly, Fort Worth. The goal of CSWM is to establish a museum and hall of fame in the city that is called, "The Cradle of Western Swing".

Toward that goal, the organization held the first "CSWM Swingfest" on May 2, 1999, in the historic Cowtown Coliseum. CSWM paid tribute to some of the 'heroes' of western music - performers and promoters, many retired and making their homes in the Fort Worth area, and some posthumously. The chosen honorees have contributed significantly to the development and popularization of this wonderful musical genre, during the 20th century, beginning here in Fort Worth, in the early 1930s. If Fort Worth is where the west begins,- then Cowtown is where the cowboy and western swing music begins!

The event was a fitting contribution to the celebration of Fort Worth's sesquecentennial (150th year), the 65th anniversary of "The Texas Playboys", and the 68th year of "The Lightcrust Doughboys"

On March 11, 2000, CSWM held a second Swingfest event, at River Ranch, in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Even more popular than the first event, this festival saw the induction of another fine roster of performers and promoters into what will become Fort Worth's only western music hall of fame.

CSWM engages in and performs educational, charitable, and benevolent activities within the meaning of Internal Revenue code, Section 501(c)(3), and Texas Tax code, Section 11.18(c). Charter # 01527349-01

CSWM seeks to benefit the public, through educational out-reach programs, integrating oral and musical presentations in public arenas, schools, day cares, locations for the elderly and disabled, by teaching, acknowledging, presenting, protecting, preserving, and perpetuating
the oral and musical heritage of western music in society.
