"Charles ‘Charlie’ Wesley Williams Jr.

DICKINSON — Charles “Charlie” Wesley Williams Jr., 87, resident of Dickinson, Texas for sixteen years, passed away January 3, 2010. He was born November 30, 1922 in Monroe, Louisiana, to parents Charles Wesley Williams Sr. and Nettie Gene Rogers Williams. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Charles was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Dickinson, Texas. He served on the Vestry, and was an active and devoted member for sixteen years.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Edith “Edie” W. Hughes Williams; son, C. Ford Williams and wife Kelly, and their children Charles and James Williams; stepdaughter, Anne Hughes Shepard and husband Tom, and their children, Matthew White and wife, Amanda Morrow, Elizabeth White and fiancé Brian Stamile, Kristin Shanahan and husband Tim; stepson, Dr. Thomas K. “Kley” Hughes Jr. and wife Margie; sisters, Julia Hand and Nettie Gene Hewett and loving nieces and nephews; special thanks to Beth and Guy Cook for their loving care and presence; to golfing buddies Tommy Watkins and Col. Tom Sledge for their steadfast friendship; to all his friends at Holy Trinity.

No kinder or compassionate care could have been asked for from Charlie’s physicians Dr. Edward L. Louis and his staff, Dixie and Jackie, and Dr. Susan Andrew. Edie offers her special appreciation and love to Judy Broman, Helene Stein, Bruce Rook, and Betty Lou Pulliam for many years of friendship; and to Brooksie and Charlie Hamaker, and Norma and Bill Brandle, Charlie’s long time friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Dickinson, Texas with the Rev. Doug Tucker officiating. Graveside services will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Monroe, Louisiana on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., with the Rev. Whit Stodghill will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

MCGEHEE — L.A. "Dickey" Smith, 82, of McGehee, passed away Friday at his home. He was born Sept. 30, 1924 in Pine Bluff to the late L.A. Smith Sr. and Myrtle Rogers Smith.

He was a retired mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, a Navy veteran, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, a member of the National Letter Carriers Association and a Methodist.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Smith of McGehee; one son, Donald Gill of Brenham, Texas; one daughter, Tambara Cingolani of McGehee; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Griffin Funeral Service Chapel in McGehee with Bro. Jody Gannaway officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m.

Burial will be in McGehee Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Funeral Service of McGehee."

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crossett. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanette Kelley. Survivors include her husband, Ralph L. Carter of Crossett; two sons, Michael D. Carter and Brian Keith Carter and his wife, Cheryl, of Crossett; one daughter, Kimberly J. Lewis and her husband, Ed of Ashdown; her father, T.D. Kelley of Crossett.; one brother, William C. "Buddy" Kelley of Texarkana, Texas; her mother-in-law, Eva B. Carter of Crossett; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were at 10 a..m. Thursday, February. 25, in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Newberry officiating. Pallbearers were Dewayne Hendrix, Bob Croswell, Jim Sled, Steve Ross, Steve Lewis, Brad Harville and Jeff Senn. Honorary pallbearers were Maurice Summers, Ben T. Carter, Bill Haney, Larry Senn, Thomas Glen Childers, Tab Childers and Hillam Duncan. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett AR. Memorials may be made to the choir of the First Baptist Church in Crossett AR."
