"Bobby Charles Strother, 76, of Mexia died Sunday morning, August 31, 2008. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, at 11 am, at the Calvary Baptist Church with burial to follow at Lost Prairie Cemetery. The Reverends James Hooper, Rick Gray and Marcus Sheffield will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Terry Lynn Strother, Todd Hindall, Wayne Strother, Jason Pringle, Jeff Lummus and Casey Mills. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Family visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. "Bob" was born February 29, 1932 in Mexia, the third of four sons and one daughter to D.K. and Leta Strother. He lived here most of his life where he married his wife, Bobbie Lummus on December 1, 1951 and had been married for 56 and1/2 years at the time of his death. He worked most of his life in the oil field business in Texas and Colorado before he became self-employed as a carpenter until his retirement in 1980. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, D.K. and Leta Strother and three brother, Don Strother, Cecil Strother and Joe Lynn Strother. Bob loved a lot of things in life, but most of all he loved his family and was cherished by each member. He enjoyed watching wrestling, playing dominoes, telling jokes and eating popcorn. Whenever asked by someone for a favor or for help, he never said no, but always replied "I'll sure try". Bob was known for his quiet demeanor and always having a joke or funny story to share to anyone who would listen. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending with his wife. His favorite scripture was Phil. 4:4 which says "Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice. Bob, "Papa" is survived by his wife, Bobbie of Mexia: two daughter, Marilyn Shamblin and husband Bud of Mexia, and Sue Strother of Mexia; Grandchildren, Shayna Mills and husband, Casey of Dallas; Eric Shamblin of Waco; Brandon Shamblin and wife Terry Lind of San Antonio, and one great-granddaughter, Casey Marilyn Mills of Dallas. "Bobbie Louis Strother, 80, of Mexia passed away July 28, 2012, in Mexia. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 p.m., Monday, July 30th at Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home. Services will be 2PM, Tuesday, July 31st at Calvary Baptist Church, Mexia. Interment will follow in the Lost Prairie Cemetery. Bobbie was born to Allen Lee and Mary Lorene Lummus on September 10, 1931. She lived most of her life in the Limestone County area, but did live in Pasadena for about ten years. She married Bobby Charles Strother on December 1, 1951, in Groesbeck, Texas and they were married 56 years before his death in 2008. Bobbie, or Nana as most people knew her after her grandchildren were born, loved her family beyond measure. She was passionate about spending time with any of her family and for nearly 20 years she could be found with her husband in the crowd cheering her grandkids on at every sporting event, pageant, and award ceremony in which they were involved. Nana loved collecting anything from Elvis memorabilia, Barbie dolls, Hallmark ornaments to junk!! Nana enjoyed all kinds of flowers and gardening until her health no longer allowed her to do so. Nana was very creative in many areas including painting, crocheting, sewing and crafts and looked forward to sharing her talents with the ‘Crafty Bunch' at church. She loved fellowshipping with her friends from the Glorious Group, her Sunday School Class and WMU of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member. Nana was preceded in death by her parents, baby brother Kermit Lee Lummus, and husband. She is survived by daughter, Marilyn Shamblin and husband, Bud and Sue Strother all of Mexia. She is also survived by grandchildren, Shayna Mills and husband, Casey of Anna, Texas; Eric Shamblin and wife, Kristin of Mexia; and Brandon Shamblin and wife, Terry Lind of New Braunfels; great-grandchildren Casey Marilyn Mills of Anna; Jackson, Cora, and Tessa Shamblin of New Braunfels; Caleb Shamblin of Mexia, and anticipated the birth of her sixth great-grandchild, Ethan Carter Shamblin due in November; brothers, Charles Lummus and wife, Minnie of Groesbeck, Bill Lummus and wife, Wanda of Jewett and Dan Lummus and wife, Nelda of Palestine. Pallbearers will be Terry Lynn Strother, Wayne Strother, Danny Strother, Jeff Lummus, Keith Guthrie and Ben Hooper. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. "Peggy Onita Strother, 68, of Pasadena passed away March 5, 2009 in Houston. Funeral services for Mrs. Strother will be 2:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2009 at First Baptist Church. Rev. Mrs. Strother was born to Olen Payton and Juanita (Ingram) McGowan on December 24, 1940 in Mexia. She was a member of the Mexia High School Class of 1959. After leaving Mexia, she moved to the Houston area where she has remained for over 49 years. Mrs. Strother worked as an X-ray tech in the VA Hospital for many years. She was very devoted to loving and caring of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Lynn Strother; a daughter, Onita Jo Weaver; grandson, Sean Strother; great-granddaughter, Madalyn Williber; a brother and sister. Mrs. Strother is survived by a son, Terry Lynn Strother and wife, Pam of Pasadena; a daughter, Donna Strother Haynes and husband, Curtiss of Pasadena; grandchildren, Keri and Nick Strother, Ashley Hartless, James Weaver, Joe Williber and wife, Jacqueline, Amanda Chesik and husband, Jason; great-grandchildren, Joe and Chance Strother, Tyler Padgett, Brayden Vidaurri, Jessica Chesik; brothers, Danny Dean McGowan and wife, Joyce of Crosby and Freddie Joe McGowan and wife, Terri of Wortham; sisters, Alice Akin and husband, Jim of Mexia, Joan Wright and husband, Danny of Mexia, Susan McGowan of Mexia.
