Services for longtime local resident Ruth Ellen Neher will be held Friday, August 29th inside the West Side Family Mortuary, 1150 Forth Street, Taft. Viewing will take place from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Bob Self is schedule to officiate at the services. Ruth was born to Jess and Lorene Young September 29~30 1941 in Caney, Oklahoma. She passed away August 26, 2003 in Taft following a lengthy illness. She was 61. Ruth had many hobbies and interests. Her favorite pastime was without question spending time with her grandchildren. She always found time to watch their ball games and sporting events. Ruth was a big sports fan. When it came to football, she always rooted for the San Diego Chargers and the Taft College Cougars. On the diamonds, she was active as a softball player and youth baseball coach. She loved to watch rodeo events. She was even an active participant in many local horse~riding events, saddling up for an occasional poker run with the Franklin Field Horsemen's Association riders. Ruth featured a delicate side with her gardening, sewing, knitting and cooking skills. She also served as PTA president while her children attended Fairfax School in Bakersfield. She was also an avid reader who particularly enjoyed "whodunit?" and mystery stories. She could solve crossword puzzles with the best of them. She stayed sharp by watching the likes of "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune". When it came to hard work she didn't shy away from tough stints in the Edison packing sheds and West Side oilfields. While in Taft she donned boots and hardhats for companies such as Di~Chem, Getty and Texaco. She was preceded in death by a brother Cecil Young and her parents Jess and Lorene Young. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth L. Neher of Taft; four sons, Johnny Alexander of Texas, Charles Alexander and his wife Jodi of Bakersfield, Timothy Neher of Taft; two daughters, Diane Wheeldon and her husband Ed of Taft and Kathy Neher of Indiana. She is also survived by two brothers, James Young and his wife Margaret of Bakersfield, and Sam Young of Bakersfield; sister~in~law, Linda Stubblefield of Bakersfield; her aunt, Lettie Mae Reed of Taft; several cousins including Gail Adams and her husband Floyd of Taft, Tommy Reed and his wife Linda of Taft, Dennis Reed and his wife carol of Taft, Larry Reed and his wife Donna of Maricopa and Gary Reed and his wife Tiny of Maricopa; several grandchildren including Mindy Wheeldon and Eddie Wheeldon of Taft, Alex Neher of Taft, Kenny Neher, Jessica Neher, Halle Neher and Kaylee Neher of Taft; Krystyn Ballard and Chad Neher of Indiana, Elizabeth Alexander of Oklahoma and Johnny White and Jennifer White of Texas, Alyssa Alexander, Misty Alexander, Justin Alexander and Jamie Bethel of Bakersfield. Ruth also leaves behind many friends, cousins, nieces, nephews and other loved ones. Services are under the direction of the West Side Family Mortuary. Upon completion of service, burial will follow at the West Side District Cemetery."

He was born on January 31st, 1943 in Arizona to Carl Raymond Reed and Lattie May (Young) Reed. He had six siblings, Donald, Joe, Gary, Gail, Tommy and Dennis. Larry attended school in Maricopa, California. Larry met Donna Barron and the couple were married on August 12, 1972 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Larry worked as a truck driver for Johnson Vac and Dican for many years. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and playing with animals. Larry was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. Preceding Larry in death are his parents, son Larry Reed Jr., silbings Donald Reed, Joe Reed, and Gary Reed. Graveside service is scheduled for 2:00PM on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Crossroads Cemetery in Horntown, Oklahoma. "A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery for Maricopa resident, Gary Reed, 65. Mr. Reed was born to Carl and Lettie (Young) Reed in Phoenix, Arizona on July 3, 1946 and passed away in a Los Angeles hospital on November 25, 2011. He was raised and educated in the Bakersfield area. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Reed had been employed as a truck driver for over 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Donald and Joe Reed. Mr. Reed is survived by his wife of 39 years, his two daughters and their husbands, his four grandchildren, his three brothers and their wives, and by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Reed will be remembered as a grandpa that was very close to his grandchildren. Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home."

Neal was born July 23, 1920 in Grady County, Oklahoma and died Monday September 4, 2006 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the son of John Robert and Ruth Ethel (Roggers) Neal. They preceded him in death. He was a veteran of World War II from 1942 to 1945. He served in the Army Air Corp, flying 47 missions and completing 234 combat hours. He and Ivon Taylor were married October 24, 1944 in Chickasha. Mr. Neal farmed in the Alex Community from 1945 to 1950. He lived in the Oklahoma City area since 1950. He retired from Tinker Field in 1980 after 30 years. He had lived in Moore for the last three years. He was an ordained Baptist Deacon. He was a current member of the Capitol Hill Baptist Church. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jake Neal and four sisters, Anna Hughes, Maple Hughes, Elsie Stubblefield and Dicey Neal. Survivors include his wife, Ivon Neal of the home in Moore; two daughters, Barbara Neal of Moore, Judy Lee of Moore; one sister, Alice Hughes of Alex; four grandchildren, Lora Smith, Angie Henager, Kristi Lee and William Poteet; and seven great-grandchildren. He joined his Lord and Savior on April 4th, 2014 at the Norman Veterans Center at the age of 87 years. Mr. Bryant had been a resident of Noble since 1966 coming from Oklahoma City. He attended school in Alex, OK. He served in the US Army in World War II from 1944 to 1946 earning several Bronze Stars for his service. On April 16, 1948 he and Jean Taylor were united in marriage in Oklahoma City, they were married for 62 years when she passed away in Dec 2010. Dale was a member of the Noble First Baptist Church. Throughout his life he enjoyed telling stories, bowling, sports, gardening, outdoor activities, volunteering at the church and the Southern Cleveland County Historical Society Museum. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Jean, son; Jerry, brother; Elton, sister; Toy Darrow.
