"The first families in this community migrated from Alabama i the 1850s. Originally known as Avant or Avant Prairie, the settlement became Sunshine after the Sunshine Methodist Church moved here from Harrison chapel in 1870. In 1869 W. S. Compton, one of the early settlers, and D. A. Self, local merchant and dentist, donated land for this community cemetery. First burial was that of a young girl, Missouri A. E. Humphrey (1869-1871). Other early graves date from the yellow fever epidemic of 1873. The town was renamed in 1885 when Dew Post Office opened. The name "Drew" was requested to honor a local resident, but postal officials misread the application. A market center for cotton farmers of the area, Dew had a cotton gin and several stores. Rural delivery replaced the Dew Post Office in 1909. A land donation by Wiley Black in 1901 enlarged the graveyard, which lies adjacent to Dew Methodist Church where funeral services are held. About 1912-13 a cemetery association was organized. Descendants and community residents gather at annual memorial day observances to tend the 11 and 1/3 acre site. The 1000 graves here include many from the 1918-19 influenza epidemic."

"DEW, TEXAS. Dew is at the junction of State Highway 75 and Farm Road 489, nine miles south of Fairfield in southern Freestone County. The area, originally known as Avant or Avant Prairie, was first settled in the 1850s by pioneers from Alabama. In 1870 the settlement's name was changed to Sunshine after the Sunshine Methodist Church moved there from Harrison Chapel. The town was renamed Dew in 1885, when a post office was established there. Locals requested the name Drew to honor a resident, but postal authorities misread the application. By 1891 Dew had three cotton gins, three general stores, a blacksmith, several churches, and a population of 150. Its post office was replaced with rural delivery in 1909. In 1947 the community had five stores, a school, and 195 inhabitants. By 1992 Dew had a reported population of seventy-one. Around 1912 a cemetery association was organized, and descendants and area residents still gather annually at the Dew cemetery. A historical marker was placed at the graveyard in 1977."

2Rayna Moore, Richard M Walker history information..
"HI Harold,
I'm the great granddaughter of Richard Merrick Walker, first married to Mary Cope and then married to Phoebe Jones in Navarro County, Texas. I have both their marriage certificates. I'm trying to find as much information as I can on the children of Richard and Phoebe; Hattie, Belle, Mandy and Jake. The Walker family in Navarro Co. believe the children went to her parent's after she died. I have quite a bit of info on Hattie and very little on the rest of their children.I would like to trance the descendants of them, especially Jake, as I believe he had a son named Duane. Richard dies before 1900 and I believe that Phoebe dies shortly after 1900. 1900 Navarro County, Texas has Feby Walker with her children and my grandmother, Luella Walker after that I can not find much on her children, except as I said Hattie, who went into OK with my grandparents where she married, Quincy Price Young and died in the 1918 flu epidemic. She had three children. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have and share any information with you.
Take care,
Rayna
Calif.".
