Lyrics and Poetry of Jim Morrisson

Heresy

I need no religion
I have my God, I have my Satan
My divine inspiration
And lucid temptation
I was led astray by a false chemical messiah
Lately I have found in pen and paper
And in my guitar an adequate savior
Something to transcend the gap
Between my good and evil half
I have my own heaven, and my own Hell
I usually stand at the brink of the chasm
My original sin was my conception
My uniqueness is my damnation.

People ask how I write poetry
I usually say it comes easily
I start with an idea, a word in the mind
And then more words, that form a line
Then a second line, much like the first
And more to satisfy my thirst
Until my poem's finally done
And then I start another one

Why do you hide your individuality?
You fill your mind with borrowed ideas
Your spirit, with prefabricated religion
Your fears, with easily stolen suspicion
You smother your soul with the trappings of conformity
You seek refuge in complacent normality
And wonder why you feel so empty

Draw it deep into your lungs
Or place it underneath your tongue
5 bucks will buy you inspiration
Or rather a close approximation
You see in your hallucination
Transcendental communication
Bought at the price of your salvation
Blissful road to ruination
