Please note that I am left-handed. That should not affect the pattern much, but you might need to crochet in BLO where I say FLO & vice versa.


Gauge: With G hook, 3 rows of 4 HDC = 1".
Finished Size: Approx. 14" circumference; sized for a newborn
Materials:
G hook
approx. 1.5 oz white sport/baby weight yarn
small amount blue sport/baby weight yarn (use pink for a girl's hat; yellow or green for a unisex one) Yarn used for sample is Red Heart Baby Soft pompadour. Unfortunately, I think my toddler ate the label so I can't give you an exact name for that pretty dark blue.

Chain 2.

Rnd 1: Sc 7 times in 2nd chain from hook. DO NOT JOIN. Place marker in last stitch, move as needed to keep your place. 7 sc
Rnd 2: HDC twice in each st around. 14 hdc
Rnd 3: (HDC in 1 st; HDC twice in following st) around. 21 hdc
Rnd 4: (HDC in 2 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 28 hdc
Rnd 5: (HDC in 3 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 35 hdc
Rnd 6: (HDC in 4 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 42 hdc
Rnd 7: (HDC in 5 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 49 hdc
Rnd 8: (HDC in 6 sts; HDC twice in following st) around. 56 hdc
Rnd 9: Working in BLO (err, the loop facing away from you, at any rate), HDC in each st around. 56 HDC
Rnds 10 - 14 HDC in each st around. 56 HDC.
Rnd 15 Working in FLO (or, the loop closest to you), HDC in each st around.
Rnd 16 - 19 HDC in each st around. In the last st of row 19, switch to blue yarn. 56 hdc
Rnd 20 HDC in each st around. 56 hdc.
Rnd 21 Sc in each st around. Finish off. 56 sc

Finishing: Weave in any loose yarn ends. Fold up rows 15 – 20
