Nomar Garciaparra is the best young star I've seen in the game of baseball in a while. With his outstanding defensive skills and second to none hitting ability, he is a great attribute to the Red Sox organization. I look for Garciaparra to be a dominant force in this sport for many years to come. Garciaparra has ended this season with the AL Batting Championship as well as winning it last year. Despite the Sox being eliminated in 5 games by the Yankees in 99, it was one of the best seasons for the Sox in the decade. Many well known magazines picked the Sox to come in 4th in the AL East. However,With an excellent showing, the Sox managed to win the AL Wildcard and finish a close 4 games back of the Yankees. The Sox also fought back from a 2 game deficit in the A.L.D.S. to beat the Indians. This year the Sox came up short of making the playoffs but came out in second place behind the Yankees and managed to end with a winning record.

The only rookie position player in the 1997 All-Star Game, Nomar made a runaway of the AL Rookie of the Year Award. He entered that year's Labor Day Weekend with a 30 game hitting streak, showing good power while displaying impeccable defense. Garciaparra was also the only Freshmen to play for the U.S. Olympic team. Nomar has speed, intelligence, and solid instinct.
