Game Review: Interstate '82

Stock up on ammo and turn the ignition, Interstate '82 from Activision™ will make you the king of vehicular combat! Interstate '82 sports 40 missions, 25 weapons, 3 music tracks from devo, and the ability to make custom skins for your vehicle. It takes place in the year 1982, featuring the main characters of Interstate '76. You are Taurus, one tough mother f**ker from I'76, though the times have changed. He no longer sports his giant 'fro or his bell-bottoms, now he's all slicked back and still as mean as ever. It seems that Taurus' ex-partner Groove Champion has gone AWOL while working undercover for the Auto Vigilante Guild. His sister, Skye asks for your help to find him... though you do most of the work, of course.

I'82s game play is just as fun as I'76, with one major exception... this time you can jump out of your car and jacks someone else's! It is actually pretty fun to drive up to someone with a more powerful vehicle, jump out, shoot his ass with a .45 & then drive away with your new ride (or you can just throw his ass out of the car =x ). Don't get carried away though, you are only armed with a lil .45 when you get out of your vehicle and that makes you very easy prey. Due to Activision's "Dark Engine" (3D card required), the vehicles and scenery look very nice and have some nice effects also.

Its single player mode is rather easy for the most part, depending on the difficulty level. Where this game really shines is in the Multiplayer Arena! You want some real action? Setup your car and join the servers! Ill be there waiting to leave you in a burning wreck =) You have a few choices of Multiplay... Kill Fest, Capture the Trout, & Hot Potato. Kill Fest is of course Death Match. Capture the Trout is basically CTF (Capture the Flag), you shoot your way into your opponents base and steal their 'flag'. Now, Hot Potato is entirely different someone in the game has a potato with a time-bomb on it, if they ram into you it is passed to you... if you don't get rid of it quick you die.

In Conclusion, I'82 is a great game with alot of great stuff, although they should have left alot of options from I'76 in =(. The best way to play this game is with Multiplayer mode, single player is just not as good as I'76s was... I would also recommend using a steering wheel and pedals for maximum efficiency and fun, not to mention a good 3D card. If you like shoot 'em ups like quake, but want a slight change, this is the game for you.
