H2M Thoughts

May 5, 2004

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been doing my show for 5 years now. I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have been invited to perform at so many schools over the last few years.

This past February and March were very busy, with 7 shows in less than 3 weeks! My duties as mom (we’ve got a 2 year old! Yikes!) as well as other theatrical obligations have meant I’ve been dreadfully neglectful of the H2M website. I hope this brief open letter will give you a taste of what’s been going on lately…

National Eating Disorder Awareness Week (February 22-28, 2004) was a huge tour through Pennsylvania and Ohio. In five days I visited 5 schools and covered a lot of miles! At my last stop in Pensylvania, I met a student who is on the road to recovery. She was kind enough to write me after the performance, "I just can’t tell you how moved I was. Your performance was so realistic. Maybe I was so affected by it because I could relate so much but it really hit home and made me want to change my life... I admire you so much! More than you will ever know."

I hope to post some more details on that great tour in the next few weeks.

In the mean time, I’d like to brag a bit about the gigs I had before and after that tour. Colgate University and Duke University each invited me to their campuses. What a thrill to perform at with such prestigious reputations.

Colgate’s campus is absolutely gorgeous – even in the dead of winter! I arrived for my performance on February 17 and they were wonderful hosts. The show at the Dana Arts Center was well received. My hosts from the Health Services and I were already talking about a return engagement before I left. Colgate

My hosts at Duke were no less gracious. We had a good turn out for the performance on March 2, despite the fact that we had steep competition from John Leguzamo, who was also performing that night!

A big thanks to all of the schools who made me a part of their EDAW programs this year. It was a hectic three weeks, but so worth it.
