art & words by jame, a dandy fopp
I attended Catholic School, and one of my classmates was Nat Laager, son of a commercial artist named Ken Laager... Ken drew the covers of those cheap western novels... he was very nice and i inspired me to draw, even when everyone said i sucked... I drew nonstop for years... I was WAY into comics, superheroes and such... and yet i developed a taste for the independent stuff early on, too... Well, it's years later, and i don't think i suck, do you? he he...keep at it kids! use crayons if you have to, Just express yourself without compromise My influences are paul pope, maxfield parrish, daniel clowes, nick cave, lou reed, tom waits, hunter thompson, and johnny cash.
I hope to one day make a living in comics a laughable goal if you know how hard it is to make it in the independents but it's what i want I have a couple ideas for biographical comics about musicians, including hank williams, muddy waters, and a HUGE project about the rise and fall of Sun Records...
