Why Jesus is God

You will notice in John 1, that the second person of the Trinity was pre-existent. That is he existed before he became a human.
Some of the verses that proof that are: Genesis 2:26, Judges 2:1, 6:1 to name only a few.

The I AM'S of Jesus
I Am the bread of life John 6:35

I Am the light of the world John 8:12

I Am the gate John 10:7, 9

I Am the good shepherd John 10:11, 14

I Am the resurrection and the life John 11:25

I Am the way, the truth and the life John 14:6

I Am the true vine John 15:1, 5


Jesus was NO ordinary man, he said himself in John 6:38, "For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will, but the will if Him who sent Me.

Jesus had a purpose that is illustrated here in John 6:40, "For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.

Jesus resurrected on the third day after he was crucified, and stayed around for more than 40 days, I believe the point in that is so that enough people could see him and therefore it would be hard to despute the fact.
