A Light in the Dark

All around me, murders are being committed
Gunshots are flying like rain
In every alley, a rape is being committed
I see all, Fear has clutched me in his tight, dark grasp
But I am not alone

I have to watch out for brass knuckles,
Knives dope and guns
People try and make me sell my most prized possession
I resist, hearing their hurtful cursing and harsh laugh
I try my best in school to get out of this hellhole
I want a life protecting my family with a big, bright, white picket fence

An enormous guard dog and a rich husband
A big house, a pool and four little children
A fancy car and true love and protection
And every summer and winter we jet off somewhere spectacular
But all that may not happen

Cause my elder bro's a drug dealer
Sniffin' dope, coke, and glue
My older sister's a prostitute
She's already got STD
My twin bro's a pimp
Making money off of others
And both my parents
Are six feet under

But when I see Mister Potter
The war veteran whole told me to keep on trying
And Misses Dunson who runs the soup kitchen
And Pamela the Salvation Army worker
Princess Di, Mother Teresa, Ghandi all spark my fire
My light to lead me out of the darkness

I have the POWER
I can SUCEED
I am STRONG
I am INVINCIBLE
I AM WOMAN
