Black Dolls Part 2
BLACK DOLLS PART TWO

PRESENTED BY NURSE_EDNA

Starting off Part Two is Pam/dollygirl64's doll

She is from the very early 50's, around 15" tall, strung body, mohair wig on cardboard pate, unusual bright blue flirty glass eyes, red nostrils and fingernails, and dangly gold hoop earrings. She also has a hole in her tummy where a mama box used to be. She belonged to my Mother-in-Law when she was a little girl. She was made by the Italian firm, Ratti.

Next is Betsy/rviola
The first pic is a pic of the two of them. The adult china is 11" tall, and a very common china head, limbs, and cloth body. What makes this so unique is that some one has very carefully painted all white china areas; a warm brown color. They even went so far as to leave the whites of the eyes a natural china white. Very well done.

This black baby is only 1 1/2 inches tall. She is a frozen Charlotte type with an unusual molded hair style of a large braid wound around her head. She is very well formed for such a tiny doll. I forgot to mention, the bigger china has her original clothes.

This is a close-up of the face of the painted china.

I/nurse_edna believe that dolls needn't be old or expensive to be interesting. Crystal is an 11 1/2" fashion doll I bought at K Mart just a few days ago. I was intrigued with her facial molding and beautiful hair.

This 8" drink and wet toddler has her own bottle, sleep eyes and a crier. Cost......$1!

On the other end of the spectrum we have a lithographed paper doll by Llittauer and Bauer circa 1880. There are reproductions made by Shackman, but this is the real McCoy.

My/nurse_edna's New Zealand Maori doll (I love the feather cape!) is 14".

I/nurse_edna also like the tiny dolls. Top Left: HP Marked Banner plastics wearing crepe paper clothing. 21/2", 1950s

Top Center: HP Jamaican lady 3", character face, painted nails, bracelet and necklace, fruit on her hat, detailed dress and panties.

Top Right: Bisque marked Japan topsy type with 3 pigtails. 4" circa 1940s and 50s.

Bottom Left: HP 6" detailed uniform of Nassau police. Made in England.

Bottom Center: Bisque 6" Kerr & Hinz girl, unusual in that she has eyebrows. Came with a long slip, probably dressed like NASB Topsy. Bottom Right: 8" HP flirty eyed walker marked Tudor Rose. Made in England.

Deanie/joint heir's HP little girl marked Horsman 16" -- look at those great braids! Unmarked porcelain head & cloth body.. 17". The mother & daughter are 19" & 11" with U on the tall one, and 42 on the small one.

Linda's dolls

The first is a 26 inch Simon and Halbig/Heinrich Handwerk. She has no mold number but has a size number of 5 1/2. I am not sure if she was painted brown before or after the last firing. I am unsure when she dates from. She is believed to be all original, though her silk dress is deteriorating rapidly.

The second is an 11 inch Unmarked open mouth Jumeau, painted bisque, no markings except for the number 3. She has been redressed by previous owner. Date of manufacture is again unclear.

The third is Aunt Jemima and her family including Uncle Moses, Wade and Diana. All are plastic stuffed with cotton. Aunt Jemima and Uncle Moses are 12 inches tall. Wade and Diana are 8 inches tall. Kay/kaluv's Dolls

The first one is Polly Golly. Her story is...she was brought to my house by a neighbor, who wanted to know how to fix her hair, because she was going to list her on eBay. I suggested french knots, which she used but she also added some mini-braids. She looked so cute I fell in love with her, and when my neighbor listed her I bid...big time. She cost me $65.00.

Then one day while garage saling, I ran across this doll, who is made exactly like Polly, so Polly and I adopted Cholly....for $5.00. Didn't even barter on the price! LOL! The Doll Chatters helped me name Polly and Cholly! Then one day while surfing the listings, I found the original doll pattern for them, and found they were called picaninny dolls on the pattern...not golliwogs. Of course, I had to have the pattern too....$65.00. (Couldn't find the pattern to photgraph)

Next is Madame Alexanders' Pussy Cat, who I inherited from my Mother's collection. I think she is from the 70's.

And last my daughter, Korki's dolly, who is unmarked and her clothes are here.....somewhere! She's going to the beauty shop soon! With her is her favorite exterrestrial...ET! Sue/lkmt's doll: AmoSandra doll by Sun Rubber Co. about '49-'50. I've had her since I was teeny (used to have two, but my dog chewed one up 20 years ago, grrrr.) She is 10", and has repainted hair and mouth - her rubber is getting very dry and I'm going to give her a bath in AmorAll one of these days. Evidently she is the little girl's doll from the Amos 'n Andy radio show.... Has "Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc." and "Designed by Ruth E. Newton" as only part of the extensive labeling on her back.
