ANNOUNCEMENTS Please check back often. More info will be posted as I get them. Thanks! ABANDONED (04/30/00) Thanks for every one's support. I haven't heard back from the person who organized this. I guess its safe to assume that this project has been abandoned... WebMaster CONCERNED OVER CONFUSION (04/01/00) Lately, we have been hearing some information on lead contamination from some shooters who are concerned for their health. It is both prudent and reasonable to care for one's health and it is also reasonable to advise others of any possible area for caution. However, I would like to recommend some calm within this storm, which is brewing. Quite literally, we need not give additional ammunition to the anti-gun crowd by suggesting yet another avenue of regulation available to them. With a handful of "junk science" and good intentions for our well being, we could see yet a new frontier of laws for gun regulation because of an issue, which may be a non-issue. Anyone who is concerned about his or her health may want to invest in jacketed ammo or perhaps Bismuth type ammo, which will in large part end the exposure to lead. In addition, a considerable increase in cost will be incurred if we eventually have a government "study" to further control ammo, guns, our kids, and us. Moreover, sounding an alarm without sufficient historical data is reminiscent of the tactics of the "left" as opposed to the measured objectivity of conservative thinkers. Let us take careful steps, as the Second Amendment is under attack by a hoard of liberals, we need not aid them in their efforts. Scientific data is coming on this issue which will be both comprehensive in nature and neither biased nor shortsighted. Offered in closing is an appropriate quote, "it's bad enough to shoot yourself in the foot, but if you stop to reload, your judgment may be questioned." Best Regards, Ron Brennan PHASE ONE On Tuesday evening, 3/21/00, a group of us met at the DeVoge Gun Range to discuss the future of the facility. In short, the range has ceased to be a viable business for the owners and will be sold to another party for use other than a public range. The reasons for this decision are financial, but surely have been prompted in some part by the general "anti-gun" bias we see everywhere in our society today. As we are apt to complain about the erosion of Second Amendment Rights, we now find ourselves in the position of being able to actually do something about this issue on a local and personal level. The question is "'are we willing to commit some personal time and effort to maintain shooting sports in our community?" The simple possibility is that we as a group may be able to buy the range and establish it as a "not for profit" membership owned range. As a group we have the talent and the opportunity to do this, the question is do we have the willingness and ambition to put some "sweat equity" into our sport in order to preserve It both for today and for the future? We cannot point to S&W, Colt, or anyone else for caving in on the issue if we as a group are not willing to do something, which requires effort and time. This is a bit of a "defining moment" because it hits home for us and is indeed within our control; we need not decry what is going on in Washington, D.C., if we will not put forward the necessary effort in Arcola, Texas. The NRA has programs available for "not for profit" ranges which promote shooting sports. These programs contain grants, which upgrade current facilities and provide for expansion and renovation. This is only one possibility as many organizations are willing to help in the conflict of the "gun debate." However, the core effort has to be on the part of the "membership" if our rights are to be maintained. The NRA is being contacted today regarding range programs and that information will be sent out to you by e-mail or FAX if you desire. In summary, we need the help and commitment of any and all that want to see our rights preserved. Any comments or Ideas are welcome to aid in this project. No one else is responsible If we do not act. Sincerely, Save The Range Committee CONTACTS If you are interested in helping, please contact Save The Range Committee by e-mail hgt123@yahoo.com Thank You!
