AND A BLESSED CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

THE CREATION

When God had made the earth and sky
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds and bees.

And when at last He'd finished
not one was quite the same.
He said, "I'll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name."

And so He travelled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until it's strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth
and in the sky and sea,
the little creature said, "Dear Lord,
there's not one left for me."

Kindly the Father said to him,
"I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name back to front
and called you dog, My friend.

FAITHFUL DOG

A Faithful Dog Will Play With You

And Laugh With You - Or Cry.

She'll Gladly Starve To Stay With You

And Never Reason Why.

And When You're Feeling Out Of Sorts

Somehow She'll Understand.

She'll Watch You With Her Shining Eyes

And Try To Lick Your Hand.

Her Blind, Implicit Faith In You

Is Matched By Her Great Love.

The Kind That All Of Us Should Have

In The Master Up Above.

When Everything Is Said And Done

I Guess This Isn't Odd.

For When You Spell "Dog" Backwards

You Get The Name Of God.

A DOG'S LIFE

I love my master; thus I perfume myself with this long-rotten squirrel I found.

I lie belly up in the sunshine, happier than you will ever be.

Today, I sniffed many dog behinds - I celebrate by kissing your face.

I sound the alarm!
Paper boy - Come to kill us all - Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I sound the alarm!
Garbage Man - Come to kill us all - Look! Look! Look! Look! Look!

I lift my leg and whiz on each bush .
Hello, Spot - Sniff this and weep.

How do I love thee?
The ways are as numberless as my hairs on the rug.

My human is home!
I am so ecstatic I have made a puddle.

I Hate my choke chain - Look, world, it strangles me!
Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack!

Sleeping here, my chin on your foot -
no greater bliss - well, maybe catching cats.

Look in my eyes and deny it.
No human could love you as much I do.

The cat is not all bad -
She fills the litter box with Tootsie Rolls.

Dig under the fence - Why?
Because it's there. Because it's there. Because it's there.

I am your best friend,
Now, always, and especially when you are eating.

My owners are romantic humans - so I lie near their feet.
I fart a big one.

LIFE IS GOOD.

WALKING IN A DOGGIE WONDERLAND
(Sung to the tune of Winter Wonderland)
(Click on the Fire Hydrant to sing along)

Dog tags ring, are you listening'?
In the lane, snow is glistening'.
It's yellow, NOT white - I've been there tonight,
Marking up my winter wonderland

Smell that tree?  That's my fragrance.
It's a sign for wandering vagrants;
"Avoid where I pee, it's MY pro-per-ty!
Marked up as my winter wonderland."

In the meadow dad will build a snowman,
following the classical design.
Then I'll lift my leg and let it go man
So all the world will know that it is
mine-mine-mine!

Straight from me to the fence post
flows my natural incense I boast;
"Stay off my TURF - this small piece of earth,
I marked it as my winter wonderland."

A LOAN FROM GOD

God promised at the birth of time, a special friend to give.
Their time on earth is short, he said, so love them while they live.
It may be six or seven years, or fourteen or sixteen.
But will you, 'til I call them back, take care of them for me?

A wagging tail and cold wet nose, and silken velvet ears,
A heart as big as all outdoors to love you through the years.
Their puppy ways will gladden you and antics bring a smile,
As guardian or friend they will be loyal all the while.

They'll bring their charms to grace your life, and though their stay be brief,
When they're gone, the memories are solace for your grief.
I cannot promise they will stay, since all from earth return,
But lessons only a dog can teach, I want you each to learn.

Whatever love you give to them returns in triple measure.
Follow their lead and gain a life brim full of simple pleasure.
Enjoy each day as it comes and allow your heart to guide.
Be loyal and steadfast in love, as the dog there by your side.

Now will you give them all your love, do not think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call, to take them back again.
I fancy each of us would say, "Dear Lord, thy will be done,
For all the joy this day shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run."

"We'll shelter them with tenderness, we'll love them while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.
But should the angels come for them much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand."

HEAVEN'S DOGGIE DOOR

My dear friend closed her eyes last night,
As her head rested in my hand.
The doctor and I agreed she was in pain
And it was hard for her to stand.

Some thoughts that went through my head,
As I cradled her in my arms,
Were of her younger, puppy years
And of her many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you" gaze.
Only a heart that's filled with tears,
Remembering our joy-filled days.

But an Angel then appeared to me
And he said, "You should cry no more.
GOD also loves our canine friends;
He's installed a "doggy-door"!
