British Shorthair
Appearance: Medium to large in size; more solid and taller than the American Shorthair; compact body with broad chest and short neck; forehead is rounded in profile; large, round eyes; thick coat.
Personality: Placid and easygoing; sleeps a lot; dignified and gentle.
American Shorthair
Appearance: Medium to large in size; solid body with wide chest and thick hind legs; oblong head; wide face with wide-set ears and round eyes; short, dense coat that may be thicker in winter.
Personality: Very affectionate; easily disciplined and trained; usually compatible with other pets and children.
Himalayan
Appearance: Medium to large in size; short, stocky body; large head on short neck; snublike nose; small ears set low on head; large, round eyes; short, full tail in proportion to body length; long fine coat with ruff around neck.
Personality: Intelligent and outgoing; devoted, gentle, and affectionate; fairly vocal; gets along well with other pets.
Maine Coon
Appearance: Large in size; muscular, broad-chested body with wide-set legs and large paws; medium-wide head with medium-long nose; large, tufted ears; large, wide-set eyes; heavy, shaggy coat with longer hair on stomach, flanks, and tail.
Personality: Friendly and lovable; requires little maintenance; adapts well to other animals; enjoys human companionship; good hunter; tiny voice.
Persian
Appearance: Medium to large in size; box-like torso; massive, round head set on short, thick neck; small, round-tipped ears set far apart on head; short, broad nose and large, round eyes; full, short, brush-like tail; long, fine coat with large ruff around neck.
Personality: Well mannered and quiet; loves attention; playful but not demanding.
Russian Blue
Appearance: Medium sized; fine-boned, lithe body; smooth head with large, pointed ears and long, graceful neck; very plushy coat.
Personality: Hardy and robust; interacts well with children and dogs; gentle and reserved; very soft-spoken; affectionate with human companions.
Scottish Fold
Appearance: Medium sized; ears are folded forward and downward, set in caplike fashion with rounded tips; rounded head with prominent cheeks, large, round eyes, and broad, short nose; level back; flexible tail; short, dense coat.
Personality: Sweet-natured and friendly; gentle and placid; gets along well with cats and dogs; not very vocal.
Siamese
Appearance: Medium sized; sinuous, muscular body; long, tapering head with almond-shaped eyes; long, tapered tail; very short coat.
Personality: Very intelligent and talkative; unpredictable moods; usually chooses one person to whom it will express affection.
