MEASURING GOD'S LOVE
"Hast loved them, as thou hast loved me"
(John 17:23)

Can I measure the love of God for me? And not only for me, but also for everyone that "he hath made accepted...in the beloved" Son of God (Ephesians1:6). Yes, we can; but we have to do it by the rule of God's Word. First, we can measure it by remembering that God is "even from everlasting to everlasting" (Psalm 90:2); and so He who "is love" (1 John 4:8,16) can say to each of His children, "Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love" (Jeremiah 31:3). That means that God's love for us is eternal, just as He is "the eternal God" (Deuteronomy 33:2); and so He will love us forever, and there is nothing in all creation that "shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:39). Then, secondly, God's love is measured by the Cross at Calvary: Look there at the rugged Cross stained with the precious Blood of the holy and innocent Son of God, dying for sinners such as you and I. Why? Because of the love of God! "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8); and so now I can say with the apostle Paul: "Christ...the Son of God,...loved me, and gave himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). Oh, may we be "rooted and grounded in" this "love", that we "may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, and to know the love of Christ, which passeth all knowledge" (Ephesians 3:17-19). Hallelujah!!!

But, thirdly, there is still another way we can "measure" the love of God; and here I have to confess that it's beyond my comprehension, beyond my imagination, beyond anything I could ever conceive in my mind___; nevertheless, I can still say with all certainty, and not only I, but each of His children, that God loves us, just as much as He loves His very own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ!!! Oh, words fail me to express what this means to me; but to know this, what joy! what comfort! what peace! what assurance! what boldness! we ought to have knowing that God loves us as He loves His Son! Oh, beloved brethren inthe Lord, look to Him who is your Lord and Savior, and by faith believe and receive the same love with which the Father loves Him, to be yours also. Walk in that love, covered with it as with a banner (Song of Solomon 2:4); and say with the apostle John: "We love him, because he first loved us" (1 John 4:19). Amen!
