Zebulon Spruill

Zebulon Spruill was born in 1825 to James Anderson Spruill and Director* Liverman Spruill in Tyrell Co NC. From tax records we see the Spruill men paying taxes in Cherokee Co TX in 1848 and they are on the 1850 census for Cherokee Co. Zebulon married Margaret Harper on 3 July 1858. They had the following children: James A., Thomas J., John Mathew, Franklin C., and Laura T.
After Margaret died he married Mary Jane Rice West, daughter of Tobias and Louisa Rice of Lauderdale AL, and widow of Wm. R.West who also served in the 18th. She had sons George and John West. The couple had four children together; Zebulon Josephus, Cora E., Sam Houston and Emma Alice.
Somewhere along the line an additional "E" was added to the spelling of Zeb's name, making a different spelling than his brother Benjamin G. Spruill who lived in the Rusk area with his family.
