CHENAULT, STEVEN, (Buried: Plot 2; Evergreen Cemetery, Orange, Texas), Born: no date. Deceased: 31st day of October, 1910. Enlisted in the service of the Confederate States of America on the 6th day of September, 1861, and served "Honorably" as a "Private" in Company "E", 8th "Texas Cavalry", "Terry’s Rangers", C.S.A. He was at this time a resident of Gonzales, Texas. He was "Honorably" discharged from said Confederate service in April, 1865, by surrender at Charlottsville, North Carolina and paroled, at which time he held the rank of "Private". (Obtained from "Southern Cross of Honor" application…his writing). Mr. Stephen Chenault is listed in "Las Sabinas", THE OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE ORANGE HISTORICAL SOCIETY; 1997 BOOK 1: As the first Orange County lawyer in 1873. Also served as County Judge in Orange County, Texas from: June, 1897 to November, 1898.
