Private John Thomas Hart

John was born in 1833, at Hickory Level, Carroll County, Georgia to Samuel and Martha (VEAZEY) HART. John married Lundah BAILEY born January 1838, Coweta County, Georgia, daughter of Ezekiel L. and Mary Polly (STEED) BAILEY, January 16, 1856 in Carroll County, Georgia. To their union were born: Charles A., Cicero O. and George O. Hart in Carroll County, Georgia.

The HART family migrated after June of 1860, to Upshur County, Texas. John joined Co. H., 18th Texas Infantry, probably about May of 1862 at Coffeeville. He may have packed off in September of 1862, with the 1st Brigade, Walker's Texas Division, of the Trans-Mississippi Department. It is known that he went to Camp Nelson / Holmes near Cabot, Arkansas. In some notes taken from the Hart family, John T. HART became ill with Pneumonia and died October 13, 1862 at Camp Nelson. He may be buried in Camp Nelson Cemetery in an unmarked grave. The notes say Lundah went to Arkansas but he passed away before she got there. No information as to whether she knew where he was buried. It does not appear, that Mrs. Lundah (BAILEY) HART ever applied for a pension from the State of Texas with concern to John Thomas HART.

Mrs. Lundah HART later married James A. REDUS, probably after the Civil War 1866-69 in Upshur Co. Texas. Camp County was not created until 1874 from Upshur. The 1870 Census Upshur County, Precinct 1, shows them at Gilmer, P.O., James Redus, wife Lunda and three males, Cicero, George and Lewis. Lewis may have been from Mr, Redus' previous marriage. So it is apparent that Mr. Redus helped raise the boys. The notes also say that James and Lundah had 3 more children: Willie Elaine, Newton E. and Henrietta Redus.

Both James and Lundah (Bailey) Redus are buried in Reeves Chapel Cemetery, SW of Pittsburg, TX.

*** Lundah (BAILEY) HART-REDUS was a sister to Agrippa E. BAILEY also part of Co. H, 18th TX INF.
