Robert Edward Gresham

Robert Edward Gresham was born abt.1842 in Lowndes County, Alabama and died 27 Aug. 1905 in Nacogdoches Co., Tx. He is buried at Glenfawn Cemetery in Rusk Co., Tx. He married (1) Mary about 1865 (2) Sarah J Williamson 17 Jan 1875. W B Ochiltree enlisted him as Pvt. Co. G 18th Texas Inf. 3 May 1862 for 3 years or the war. On 3 July 1862, he was detailed to wait on sick in Lewisville, Arkansas. The 18th Tx. had about 100 men still recovering from the measles in late August. He rejoined Co. G at Camp Nelson Ark. on Sept.15. He spent the rest of the war as an infantryman. He was promoted to Corporal on 1 Feb.1864 and was discharged at Hempstead, Tx. in 1865. He was the son of Sterling Gresham and Nancy (Mickelborough) Gresham. Sterling died 25 March 1845, and Nancy and her 5 children came to Glenfawn in Rusk, Co. Tx. in 1852 to live with her brother A.S. Mickelborough. Robertís oldest brother William died in the war.
