As a small boy life has always intrigued my psyche and I have always wanted to paint like God.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas on July 29th 1952 to
Margie R. Sumrall and Don H. Jenkins.
The artist attending various grade schools due to
parents moving from California, New Mexico and Texas
allot. While attending First Grade in
Lemmon, California the artist as a child of six years
won his first art contest in that school
with a drawing of a submarine filling in the whole
page with bright colors. Upon moving back to
Dallas in the 1960s the artist did various art
projects and took drafting in Junior High School at Griner Junior High Oak Cliff, Texas Dallas.
Called to move again the artist attended Mesquite High
School from 1965 to 1969. After High School
the artist entered the United States Air
Force during the Vietnam conflict, from 1970
to 1974. After discharging from the Armed
Forced of the United States the artist attending
El Centro Junior College in Dallas,
Texas, from 1974 to 1975 where the artist began
studying the arts.
From 1976 to 1985 the artist held various employment
positions where as a twenty-year interim took place in the artist education resulting in three children.
In 1985 the artist moved to Los Angeles /Santa Anna,
California until 1986. During that period of
time productions of holiday cards for EZ Holiday Cards
requested by the mother of Tammy Sue Bragwin and EZ Bragwin during the Christmas season.
In the 1990s the artist was employed by a department
store in Dallas at Marie Leavell's on Lover's Lane which was established in 1928
where the artist’s design were used and applied to
decorations, advertising and some clothing designs from 1988 to 1990.
At the request of the artist second wife Becky S. Willis (maiden name),
the artist was to return to college. Starting at Tyler Junior College Tyler, Texas
the artist began his study in fine arts.
The Artist later came back to Dallas/Mesquite
Eastfield Junior College to study under Kathy
Windrow one of the Top 100 artist in Texas in 1993 to
1994. After Eastfield Junior College the artist
went back to Tyler, Texas which began his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Texas at
Tyler 1992 to 1997. The Artist studies majored him in fine art with a minor in Astronomy while taking
some engineering classes on the side.
While attending the University of Texas at Tyler,
Texas the artist studied such renowned educators as
Christ Stewart (Art history) Tyler Junior
College, Jim Pace (2d art) University of Texas at
Tyler, Karen Powell (3d art) and many others.
After leaving the University of Texas in 1997 the
artist produced wall murals for Hobby Lobby Inc. in
Mesquite, Irving and in Sherman, Texas and
taught classes in art skills and applications. The
Mesquite Store on Galloway still has the
mural "Mesquite Rodeo" 1997 up in the back of the
store for the public to see. Another company
took notice and owns “Pizza Time” 1996 in Mesquite, Texas Calzones Italian Kitchen on Galloway
at Trip road.
Other murals were produced for hotels like the Hampton
Inn West End Dallas from 1998 to 1999
where upon the purchase of that property they were
rumored destroyed, now the West End Hotel. Other works
were produced during the artist earlier
career in Wills Point, Texas at the Lake Tawakoni a
marina in Tangelwood in front "The One That Didn't Get Away"1996 mixed on steel. Of these were sculpture piece and paintings.
Projects were produced for the Bristol Hotels and
Resorts at the Addison, Texas office. The Artist
entered into an international trade show through the
World Wide Art Project and Produced in
Poskeepise, NY the painting "Our Time" 2000, were he
was told it hangs at the office of the Upward
Bound High School Project in that city today.
In 2002 the artist's mother upon illness, donated
three watercolor paintings and 1 computer drawing
to the City of Balch Spring, Texas Community Center upon the artist moving to Austin,
Texas. The Artist decided to donate to the people of
Mesquite, Texas where the artist was reared by
his parents and attended High School paintings to the City of Mesquite at the Arts Center
titled "Girl Underwater, Summer Fun!" 2000 also other
donations to the Art Center were "186" mixed
on paper and Three wood panel paintings "
The Texas State Capital building" 2003, "6th Street Bar at closing" 2003 and "Austin
City Park on Colorado River" 2003 all of which were
lost by the City of Mesquite in 2004.
At the Virtuoso Art Gallery on Lake Travis in Austin,
Texas to assist Hands across the Nations
benefit and the Faith Home for Babies with
AIDS the artist donated two painting to
benefit theses children in May of 2003.At the request
of the city of Austin, Texas and the
Daugtery Gallery the artist instructed a course for
the City of Austin, Texas employees in recycled materials in 2003.
The Artist produced a Mural for a Ministry House of
Elders in Balch Spring, Texas, 2008 and a
sculpture piece "Jesus on Donkey" 2009 for The Dallas Catholic Diocese
The Artist is currently seeking commissions and
working in the studio.
The artist was President of the Texas Artist
Association in Austin and a founding member.
To Date 2009 the artist has produced over 1000 pieces
of art world wide.
