The 2nd
Battalion 47th Infantry “Panthers”, 9th
Infantry Division Vietnam are once again hosting the 47th
Infantry Regimental Reunion in Columbus, Georgia, 1 - 4 May
2008. Your Reunion Committee encourages you to make plans to
attend and share in the camaraderie of the 2008 reunion. The Committee is
dedicated to making this reunion even better than the last one! We have the full
and unconditional support of Fort Benning and the
active duty 2/47, now under the command of LTC Marc Axelberg, and the
3/47, now under the command of LTC John Lightner.
Here is some information to assist you in your planning:
1. You must
register by mail by completing the attached Registration Form and
mailing it to Roy “Doc”
Branch. You can access reunion information and the Registration Form at online
at http://www.angelfire.com/tx3/247infantry/
2. The reunion
will be at the Holiday Inn-North, in Columbus, GA. Room rates
are $79.00 per night, per room. You may begin making
reservations at any time, but you must call before April 3, 2008 to get
this rate. THE BEST WAY TO MAKE
YOUR RESERVATIONS IS TO CALL THE HOTEL DIRECTLY AT (706) 324-0231 AND
TELL THE RESERVATIONS CLERK THE RESERVATION CODE IS “47TH INFANTRY REUNION”. Another
option is to call Holiday Inn toll free at 1-888-465-4329. We have reserved a
block of 145 rooms, but they’ll go quickly, so make
your reservations soon!
3. Plan to
arrive on Thursday, May 1st to check
in and register. Registration
will be in the lobby again this year, and we will have two large Hospitality
Rooms available to us throughout the reunion.
4. We plan to
visit the 2/47th and 3/47th at Fort Benning on Friday, May 2ndth. If spouses do not
wish to go to Fort Benning, we will
have other interesting options available for them.
5.
Once
again, on Friday, May 2nd
we will hold a Poolside BBQ at 6:00 p.m. with a DJ playing Oldies. The menu is
Smoked Boston Butt or Pork Loin, BBQ Chicken, Coleslaw, Potato Salad,
sandwich buns, sweet and unsweetened Tea. The cost is $13.00 per person and you
must register in advance to participate (see enclosed Registration
Form).
6. Saturday, May 3rd features a return to the Fort Benning’s Officer’s Club for a Regimental Dinner in the
legendary Regimental Hall sponsored by our active duty personnel of the 2nd and 3rd Battalions. The cost is $30.00
per person and you must register
in advance to participate (see enclosed Registration Form). This was
one of the highlights of the 2003, 2005, and 2006 reunion’s, so be sure to sign
up! (Note: While not a formal function, please do not wear shorts, t-shirts,
fatigue shirts or flip-flops to our Regimental Dinner. Thank you.)
7. Please
bring photos, memorabilia, CDs, DVDs, etc. that our Brothers might find
interesting. We will have slide shows and a table with photos in one of the
hospitality rooms throughout the reunion.
8. Bring old
“in-country” orders that have SSN numbers on them. We use them to help us find “lost”
brothers.
9.
1969 and 1970 yearbook reprints will be available at a cost of $15 per copy at the reunion.
10.
The 5th
Scouts Golf Scramble will be held on Thursday, 1
May 2008, at the Fort Benning golf
course. We will meet there at 12:00 noon and have a shotgun start at 12:30 PM. The cost will be no more than $40
per golfer. Fellowship
and prizes are our goals, and ladies are welcome. Any
two players wishing to play together can notify Russ Vibberts in advance and he
will pair up foursomes, keeping in mind, however, our theme of making new
friends. For questions or additional information, contact Russ at 860/684-2072
or vibber@nationwide.com.
