Since
the 47th Infantry Regiment is one of the most highly decorated units
in the U. S. Army, it seems fitting to establish a monument to pay tribute to all
of the great Soldiers like you who served with the 47th since
its activation in World I.
Therefore,
work is underway to construct and place the monument at the National Infantry
Museum’s Walk of Honor on April 26, 2012, located at Fort Benning – Columbus,
Georgia. http://www.nationalinfantrymuseum.com/
We
have established a 47th Infantry Regiment Monument Fund
Committee. Its members are; Brice H. Barnes, Honorary Colonel, 47th
Infantry Regiment, LTC Kyle Feger, 2-47 Battalion Commander , and
LTC Kurt Travis Thompson, 3-47 Battalion Commander.
The
design of our 47th Infantry Regiment Monument pays tribute to many
generations of Soldiers who have served the 47th; both past and
present, and those who will serve with the 47th in the future.
The
monument will include our 47th Infantry Regimental Crest and motto, Ex Virtute Honos, the 4th Infantry Division Patch
representing our service with the 4th ID during World War I, the 9th
Infantry Division Patch representing our service with the 9th ID during World
War II, Vietnam, and during peacetime, and the 192nd Brigade with
whom the 2nd and 3rd Battalion’s proudly serve today. The
two sides of our monument list our history, all campaigns and decorations
received by our very highly decorated unit. Our monument will stand for
all time as a tribute to each of you who have served with the 47th
Infantry Regiment in the beautiful park like setting of the National Infantry
Museum’s Walk of Honor located at Fort Benning – Columbus, Georgia.
We
are very pleased to share that our Active Duty Soldiers of the 2nd
and 3rd Battalion’s, 47th Infantry Regiment stationed at
Fort Benning have graciously secured and funded ($1,500) the plot which
includes perpetual maintenance at the National Infantry Museum’s Walk of
Honor. This is greatly appreciated and demonstrates the “Never
Quit” attitude of our current 47th Infantry Regiment Soldiers.
Initially our fundraising goal was set at $20,000. However, to insure that our 47th Infantry Regiment Monument is wheelchair accessible we have decided to increase the size of the plot at the National Infantry Museum’s Walk of Honor to 15’ x 15. As a result our goal has been revised to $22,000. This $2,000 increase is essential in order make our monument accessible to all and to complete the construction and placement of our monument at the National Infantry Museum’s Walk of Honor on April 26, 2012.
We
are asking for your help in funding our 47th Infantry Regiment Monument by
making a donation. We plan to dedicate our monument on April 26, 2012, at
the National Infantry Museum’s Walk of Honor during our 47th
Infantry Regimental Reunion to be held 25 -29 April 2012. Your generous
donation would be most helpful and greatly appreciated.
Donations may be sent to the address
