More bad news for Netscape: according to a recent survey, IE users now outnumber Netscape users by about 4:1
For more information than you would ever want to know about the differences between Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator, check out October 15, 1999 story, "Sizing Up the Browsers" , by Steve Mulder and Michael Brandt at the Webmonkey . Hopefully, they will leave that article posted at the site for a long time. If they change the link, you might still be able to locate it by putting the title into their internal site search engine.
Another interesting browser (browser's no longer rate being called exciting), is the open-source Mozilla browser. To learn more, go to Mozilla.
The browser tide definitely shifted in favor of Microsoft's Internet Explorer when it released version 5.0 in 1999, which was smaller and more nimble than its predecessors. Add in the purchase of Netscape by America Online, and the momentum is definitely in favor of MS. Consider, however, the very small and nimble Opera browser out of Oslo, Norway. Unlike the others, however, Opera is not free.
