Dream of:
19 August 2012 (2) "The Blouts"being bloated is no excuse for being unprepared

I'm sitting in the back of a crowded courtroom in which the cases scheduled for today will be called shortly. I'm here on a case in which I'm representing a man and a woman in a real estate transaction. I've simply shown up in court, even though I'm unsure of all the details of the case. Looking farther down the row to my left, I can see the two attorneys for the opposing side sitting and staring straight ahead at the judge's bench in front of the courtroom. Unlike me, they appear to be ready for court. I don't even have paper to write on. I think I might be able to write on the back of some legal cases which I have in a notebook.
I know that my case depends on a motion which I need to make immediately when our case is called. I know the argument which I need to make, but I'm uncertain of the name of the case which I need to cite when I make my argument. At this point, I don't have any way of looking up the case. I remember that when I had read the case, the attorney in that case had been in a similar position as I because he hadn't been able to remember the name of a case which he needed to cite. I figure the judge will know the case I'm talking about and I might just refer to it as "that case" when I make my argument to the judge.
Even though I'm unprepared, I figure I'll be able to perform adequately. I'm not sure, however, if my clients are even in the courtroom. I know that their last name is "Blout", but I don't know what they look like. I look around the courtroom, but that doesn't help. I think I can stand up and call out "Blout", but I really don't want to do that just yet. I'm not even positive that the Blouts have been notified of this hearing. I figure the court has notified the Blouts, but I'm unsure that my office has also notified them. I hope I have the postal green card to prove that I have notified the Blouts of the hearing. Then if they don't show up, it will be their own fault.
Even if the Blouts don't show up, I intend to try to proceed without them. The judge will probably dismiss the case if they don't show up, but I'll try to argue my case anyway. I intend to do the best I can and not worry about it.
