Dream of: 16 December 2011 "Surviving Devastation"

I had gone to the Summerdale Drive House to visit my ex-wife Carolina, but she wasn't home when I arrived. The floor plan of the house seemed different from the way I remembered it. I sat down in the front room and looked it over. I noticed that some radiators had been maladroitly installed in the room. Seeing loose wires hanging from the radiators, I thought they needed to be redone. I looked out the large front window and noticed some people walking across the driveway outside. They walked around the house and entered the back door. There were six or seven Hispanic women and some children, as well as two Hispanic men and two white men. They walked into the living room and sat down as if they owned the place.

I quickly had the feeling that they were from a church. I started talking in English to one of the white fellows (probably in his late 20s). I didn't care much for him. He wouldn't explain exactly why they were there. He seemed to describe a church, but it really wasn't a church. He talked about stocks and I concluded that these people apparently traded in the stock market.

At first I didn't say anything about stocks. Finally I told him that I knew about the stock market, but I had never been able to make a lot of money in the market. I asked him if they traded long term or short term. He seemed to look at me as if I didn't know what I was talking about.

I asked the group what language they used. They were obviously typical Hispanic peasants. I told them that I could speak Spanish and I began speaking a little Spanish. From the looks on their faces, they seemed to enjoy hearing my Spanish. The white fellow, however, even though he apparently could speak Spanish, began speaking to me again in English. I didn't like that. I was developing a dislike for him.

I stood up, walked over to the back window and looked out. It was dark outside, as if a tornado were coming. But then I realized that a line of trees was simply shading the area out back and that it wasn't actually as dark outside as I had thought.

When I walked outside, however, to get a better look, I did indeed see several funnel clouds in the distance. Since there were no fences between the yards, I kept walking along a long line of houses. When I finally looked back toward Carolina's house, I saw a house move off its foundation and travel down the street. I couldn't be sure, but I thought the house might be Carolina's. I walked back toward Carolina's house and was astonished to discover that Carolina's house was sitting in the middle of the street. Only a clean foundation of white concrete remained where the house had stood. I thought about how devastating this would be for Carolina. But then I recalled that she had insurance, so it might not be as bad as it looked.

As I walked toward the house, I realized I had left my Samsung cell phone in a little utility room in the house. I walked inside and looked for the phone, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Then I remembered that the Hispanic people had been in the house and I wondered if they had left before the tornado had hit.

The house was a mess inside. I continued looking until I finally found my phone, but it wasn't working. When some other people came into the house and gathered around me, they acted as if they knew me and as if they liked me. They said they had seen my white car parked outside. I told them about the Hispanic people who had been in the house and they suddenly all became concerned and started looking around, but no one could find the Hispanic people.

I walked back outside in the same area where I had been walking before. I could see more funnel clouds in the distance. I didn't know what I would do if one of the funnel clouds came near me since there was no place to hide.

One funnel cloud particularly caught my attention. It was tall and straight. It was moving, but it wasn't spinning. It consisted entirely of green shrubs, trees and grass - all kinds of green plants. It was especially filled with green leaves. It moved on and other funnel clouds formed. The clouds were all around me. They would smash into things and then move on.

A woman walked up to me and we began talking. I told her that this was the first time I had been there in four years. I put my hands to my head. I felt as if I were crying, but I really wasn't crying.

Since my phone wasn't working, I didn't know how I was going to find Carolina. Obviously the power was out. I wondered if my credit card would still work. I needed to find a place to stay. I wasn't sure what I was going to do.
