Dream of: 17 January 2011 "Optometry"

Dressed in a suit, I was in a courtroom where I was representing a criminal defendant. I wasn't quite sure, but I thought that the case had something to do with optometry and that I needed to do a little research on optometry. I stayed in the courtroom most of the day. I noticed a woman who looked like a lawyer in the courtroom. She looked as if she were getting ready to leave, but she was reading a little letter to herself and I heard her mention the word "optometry." I immediately started talking with her. I learned that she was also handling a case dealing with optometry. She was friendly, but she soon left.

I felt good about being in the courtroom and I thought I could handle my case, even though I wasn't completely prepared. The day drug on until it was 5 p.m. and time to leave. My case still hadn't been called.

I was just getting ready to leave when my old law school classmate, Haim (about 30 years old) walked up and I realized that he was the defendant whom I was representing. He was dressed in gawkish garb and cowboy boots. We were standing in the back of the courtroom. When I looked at the bench at the front of the courtroom, I saw judge Schwille sitting there.

Schwille saw us and he said that our case would only take a half hour. I thought that that was a good sign and that he was signaling that I was going to win the case. I realized I had almost made a mistake by leaving without even giving notice that I had been in the courtroom. Haim and I walked to the bench and I told Schwille that we were ready. Schwille took note of what I had said.

It appeared that the prosecuting attorney had already departed. I thought Schwille might simply dismiss the case, but he apparently wasn't going to do that.

I started thinking about how I was going to present my case, and I thought about the questions which I was going to ask.
