Dream of: 06 September 2010 "Rewrite"

My brother Chris and I were in a house with Michelle and some of her friends, including her friend Jacinda. I knew Chris had just had a birthday the day before and I hadn't bought him anything, so I intended to go to Wal-Mart and see if I could buy him something. I wanted to give him a puzzle or a game on which he could work and which would challenge his intelligence.

I told Michelle I was going to Wal-Mart and I asked her if she wanted to go with me. Noticing that she was clearly pregnant, I reflected that I had been writing a book about Michelle, and in the book I had reached a point where I had said I wasn't going to be with her anymore. Yet I was still with her. It looked as if I were going to have to rewrite what I had already written in the book.

Jacinda had several roles of toilet paper which she was trying to sell to another woman in the house. I wondered where Jacinda had acquired the toilet paper. I knew Jacinda sometimes sold some of her food stamps, but I didn't think she could buy toilet paper with food stamps. So I asked Michelle if toilet paper could be bought with "Wic" (I knew "Wic" was another government program, although I didn't know exactly what it was). Michelle replied, "Yea."

I reflected that I had always somewhat looked down on Michelle and her friends. I thought myself somehow superior. Now, however, I realized I was somewhat like them. I myself did not have much money any more. I only had a few thousand dollars left. I actually felt rather comfortable around Michelle and her gang. The more time I spent with them, the more I became used to them.
