Dream of: 09 November 2008 "Phantom Ship"

I seemed to be sitting on a ship on the ocean. People were mingling around in the background, but sitting next to me on my left were a couple fellows (probably in their late teens) and a woman who I thought was probably the mother of the two lads. As I listened to the two fellows talk, I realized they were speaking German. They seemed as if they were lost and didn't know where they were going. Finally I asked the boy sitting next to me, "Wohin gehen Sie?"

I wondered if I should use the familiar "du" or the formal "Sie" when addressing them, and decided on "Sie".

He spoke a little in German, then finally he said something about a town called "Necken". I didn't understand if he said that he was from Necken, or that he was going to Necken. I also wasn't sure where Necken was, but I thought it was a small town on the border of Germany. I shrugged my shoulders and asked him where Necken was. His answer wasn't clear, but from what he said, I gathered he was traveling east from Germany, through Russia, because he wasn't able to travel west out of Germany.

It occurred to me that he was saying he was from East Germany. I knew East Germany and West Germany had merged so it was now possible for East Germans to travel west out of Germany.

The way he was talking and describing his situation began to seem very strange and suddenly I realized he was still back in another time era. I asked him if he knew what year it was. Looking puzzled, he responded as if asking a question, "1978? 1996?"

I told him to stop and think. For myself, I began to think I was on some kind of phantom ship outside of time. It seemed as if we were sailing along, and we didn't even know what year it was. Somehow, this fellow was still living in the past.
