Dream of:29 July 2006 "Evicted"
Carolina and I were being evicted from the Summerdale Drive House. I numbly perused the possessions which I would either have to move out of the House or leave behind. I wasn't sure what I would do with everything.
I looked out the front widow to the house across the street where the Meeks family lived. A sign in their front yard indicated they were going to have a meeting about the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. I looked at myself in a mirror in the room -- I sported unshaved stubble. I didn't want to go to the meeting. Besides, I didn't know much about the First Amendment anymore anyways. Just a little. Besides, I had never associated with the Meeks all the time I had lived here -- now certainly wasn't the time to start, now that I was leaving.
As I continued looking over the House, the attorney representing the people evicting us showed up. Perhaps 40 years old, dressed in a suit, he stalked in. We talked. Today was Wednesday. I asked if we could stay in the House until 6 p.m. on Friday. He hesitated, but finally answered, "Yes."
He left and I began gathering together a few things. I picked up one record which I intended to take. It looked like one of the old 10 inch records, but at the same time it appeared to be a newer record. It appeared to be of the comedy genre; on the cover were three fellows (probably in their 20s). Unsure I even wanted to keep it, I laid it back down.
I looked around at my other possessions, trying to decide what to keep and what to let go. I now thought perhaps I should have asked for more time. I remembered the time I had evicted April and Arthur Swanigan from the house I had rented to them, they had asked for more time, and I had granted them a couple extra weeks. But I had only asked for a couple days. Of course I knew I had recently been to court and I had only been granted three days to move. Now, the reality was: I didn't have much time; I would load up what I could; I didn't know what I would do with the rest.
