Dream of: 14 January 2006 "Wreck In A Cornfield"

I was 30-40 kilometers from Portsmouth, driving a car headed away from Portsmouth. I hadn't intended to come this far and I was looking for a place to turn around and head back to Portsmouth. When I went around a curve, I saw ahead of me a long iron-girder bridge, packed with cars with their headlights on coming toward me. I didn't want to cross the bridge, and when I spotted a wide spot in front of the bridge, I turned around and headed back.

I cruised along country roads, headed back toward Portsmouth. My old high school friend, Buckner, was sitting right beside me in the front seat, and a third person was sitting on the other side of Buckner. Other people were also sitting in the rear seat.

I began driving faster and faster, until suddenly, in front of me, I saw a little girl (about 4 years old) standing right in the middle of my lane. I could hardly believe my eyes and I was uncertain whether to swerve to the right or to the left. If I swerved to the left, I might hit an oncoming car, but suddenly I also noticed some other people (presumable the girl's mother and the mother's other children) standing beside the road on the right, so at the last second I swerved to the left. I safely passed the girl, still shocked by how close I had come to hitting her. I asked Buckner if he had seen her. He had.

I kept driving, still going very fast. Buckner was now sitting so close to me that he was encumbering my right arm and I tried to force him back. Just then I started going around a curve so fast I was having trouble staying on the road. I was getting closer and closer to the edge of the road on my right, and I couldn't seem to slow down. Finally, I saw it was hopeless, and the car slammed off the road into a field of tall green cornstalks. I thought if the car didn't turn over and we didn't hit any trees on the other side of the cornfield, we would probably survive.
