Dream of: 08 June 2005 "Uncomfortable Situation"

I was driving a car with my old high school buddies Walls and Ramey sitting in the front seat, Walls in the middle and Ramey by the passenger door. We were all about 25 years old. Even though it was the middle of the day, we had all been drinking beer and were feeling the effects. We each had a beer with us.

We were driving around a deserted area of town. Since I knew an old run-down bar was around the corner, I headed toward it. We passed by the bar, but since no cars were there, I kept going.

As I headed toward the stop sign at the end of the street, I began complaining that Walls was causing me problems, crowding me, because he was sitting on the console between the two bucket seats. He acted a bit offended, then slid back between the seats to the back seat. I now felt more comfortable.

I reflected, however, that Walls was actually not the source of my discomfort: I really shouldn't be out here drinking in the middle of the day like this.

A car with its lights on was coming toward me. I blurted, "If that's a cop, I'm in trouble."

The car passed without incident. I pulled up to the stop sign and turned the corner. I felt lousy. I couldn't blame Walls for my being there. It was my own fault. I had put myself in that situation and I would probably end up being pulled over for driving while intoxicated. I felt like pulling over to the side of the road, getting out of the car, and simply extricating myself from the situation.
