Dream of: 10 February 1999 "Carmen"
My great-aunt Dorothy had died. It was to be expected – she had been in her nineties. She had lived by herself in a small frame house, which my mother and I were now going through to see what Dorothy had left behind. There wasn't much in the house. In one room I found a few old photo-post cards and a fake hundred-dollar bill. Seeing little of value, I began to become inpatient. It seemed as if I surely must have more important things to do than going through this house.
Suddenly I began hearing in my mind a particular piece of music which I recognized as a piece from the opera Carmen. As the piece repeated itself over and over in my head, I realized I needed to try to write lyrics for this particular piece of music. Certainly writing these lyrics was more important than going through Dorothy's things.
