Dream of: 06 December 1995 "Circle Of Friends"

I awoke and found myself lying on a mattress on the ground, and at first it looked as if I were outside. I picked up a small black radio/cassette player (like a small boom box) lying next to my mattress. I pushed a button and sound blared out. I quickly turned it down, for I realized some friends of mine were sleeping near me, and I didn't want to disturb them. However, even if it meant disturbing them, I intended to keep the cassette player going. To keep the noise to a minimum, I moved the cassette player to the far side of my mattress.

I detected movement among the others who were also waking up. Altogether there were four and counting me, we made a group of five. One asked me what I was listening to, and I said it was a cassette tape of a condensed version of Alexander Dumas' The Three Musketeers, read in French. I pointed out that I also had a copy of the French text and that I used the text to follow along the reading; it was an excellent way to learn French.

As I began waking up more, I realized we weren't outside, but were in the large back room of the Gay Street House, the room on the Eighth Street side. When one of my companions stood up, I recognized her as my friend Kim (a woman a few years younger than I whom I first met in Portsmouth in 1977). About 25 years old, she was slender and pretty, and seemed jauntily limber.

When the French cassette came to an end, Kim directed her attention to a stack of LP records lying in the room. As she flipped through the records, I saw one record which said "Portuguese" on the front, and I hoped she would put that one on. The record contained instructions for learning Portuguese, and I thought I would like to hear some Portuguese right then.

Kim picked out a record (I couldn't see which one) and walked over to the record player. The record player looked like one of the old wooden sewing machines with the foot treadle at the bottom. However, when the wooden top was lifted, a record player instead of a sewing machine was to be found inside. Kim lifted the top and began trying to put the record on. Putting records on this particular record player was a bit tricky, but Kim seemed to know what she was doing. I thought perhaps she had watched me put on a record one time and had made note of how I had done it.

As Kim put on the record, however, I didn't much want to listen to anything at the moment. I had something else in mind: I would like for the five of us to get up, sit in a circle on the mattress and meditate together. I was unsure the others would want to meditate like that, but I was sure such a mediation would be beneficial. The only problem was that I was naked under the cover, and in fact, I might even have an erection. I was unsure I would be able to keep myself covered up if I sat up, but I thought I could manage it, provided the others were interested in meditating.
