Dream of: 22 November 1995 "Mu"

I was getting ready to go on a trip to Syria, and was looking at a map of the country. However the map looked nothing like what I thought Syria should look like. Instead I saw a country with irregular coastlines and many islands, a country which looked more like Greece. I couldn't place in my mind where this country was. I thought I knew where every country in the world was, but this one baffled me.

I was walking through the streets of a city in Syria, a residential street crowded with brown adobe houses. I was learning Arabic and in my hand I had a list of Arabic words written in Arabic script. With me was a Syrian dressed like an Arab, and a woman dressed in western style blue jeans and shirt. The woman was serving as my guide. She was being very nice, and I didn't know exactly why she was being so helpful to me.

But finally it grew late and the woman said she had to leave. As she turned and walked down the street away from me, I turned to the other fellow and asked what her name was – I wanted to say thank you to her. He told me a name which began with a "K." I then asked the fellow how to say "Thank you" in Arabic. He told me a word which sounded like "Mu."

I turned toward the direction where the woman was walking away and I hollered her name and "Mu." She turned toward me, but she didn't seem to understand, so I hollered again. This time she understood and smiled. She then turned and walked on.

I now realized just how helpful she had been. The other fellow said no one had bothered us until now because everyone respected the woman. But now that I was on my own, I might have problems. The other fellow also told me that he would have to leave. That would mean I would be alone. It was starting to get dark, and I looked around in apprehension at the unfamiliar, ominous streets. I realized I didn't even know where I was going to spend the night. The first thing I needed to do was find a place to stay.
